Very surprised to get a very nice room at Blue Paradise Hotel for just small money. it was much over our expectation. The hotel was so nice, room was clean, spacious with balcony and city views. We were very very happy to find that in our room has a computer for internet (ofcourse for free).
We have traveled alot and found that Blue Paradise is one of the best mini hotels in the world. We will tell our friends to stay at that hotel.

We arrived (2 adults, 2 small children) in Hanoi after a long tiring journey across the border from China, and although I had said wewould make our own way there, a man on a moto met us where the bus stopped. So far so good. We were given a very large room on the 4th floor which actually had 5 beds in it, clean etc, although the bathroom was a bit grungy. So staying in the room was fine, but we got ripped off big time on the tours and also some train tickets we asked him to get for us. We also wanted to stay an extra night and he said they were full (in fact overbooked, as we witnessed a similar arguement take place to that described previously), but would try and find us somewhere else while we were out on the (prebooked) Perfume Pagoda tour. It was very busy in Hanoi due to flooding in the central regions, and he ended up taking us to some place across the river where no-one spoke englsh etc. Needless to say we refused to stay there and headed into town alone to look for somewhere to stay albeit with 2 now hysterical children thinking they were going to be sleeping on the streets! We found a room for the night at the ATS hotel by the Opera House which was fine. So in conclusion, Blue Paradise OK rooms, but terrible service.

This could have been a pleasant stay at Blue Paradise if we weren't mucked around and lied to.
Firstly, we had booked Blue Paradise on Expedia and paid upfront about $30AUD for 4 nights. Upon arrival we were told our room was occupied and we could not stay there. We refused to accept this, but we were told there was no room for us. Instead, they offered to whisk us away to another hotel for the night and come back in the morning. We begrudgingly accepted.
They took us away from central Hanoi to some out of the way hotel in a dark street. That hotel (Nam Xe I think it was called) was scary as there were absolutely NO westerners there and throughout the night it looked like businessmen were coming and going with prostitutes. Not pleasant.
The next morning we were picked up and taken back to Blue Paradise. Upon arrival this time were were told still no room for the night. The occupiers of our room were staying another night. What the heck? We had booked and paid for a room and even after staying one night elsewhere, the second night we were being told we had to go elsewhere. This was absolutely appalling. So I made a point to the manager at concierge in front of all of her guests having breakfast that you can not take money for a room and then tell the people they can not stay there, that this was fraudulent behaviour. We would have promptly left and found elsewhere however our other hotel later in the week the Rozalisa were unable to accomodate us any earlier, so we really had no other options.
After the manager pleaded with me to leave and stay at their sister hotel "Asia House Hotel", we finally agreed it would be for one night but with an iron clad promise that we would be staying here the next night.
I have posted a review on Asia House Hotel so you can read about our experiences there. Suffice to say we did not want to stay there any longer than 1 night.
Blue Paradise tried to get us to stay at the inferior hotel for the rest out our stay. We weren't having it. We returned the next morning and they did give us a room on the top floor but it was not the room we had paid for (we had paid for the biggest room). We asked for a refund of the nights we hadn't stayed plus the difference in room cost. They did do this after a further argument.
Our actual stay for the 2 nights we did stay here were okay. The room we stayed in was marginally comfortable, the bathroom clean (compared to Asia House anyway) and it was sufficient. Certainly what we expected to pay for.
The hotel has computers downstairs for internet use and the provide morning breakfast in the form of toast and fruit. For the next two days the Manager did put on a warm attitude and tried to make up for her mistakes, and I'll give her credit for that.
So overall, I would recommend to stay at Blue Paradise IF you do actually get the room you organised. If you get mucked around like we did, this could ruin your holiday.
My advice is to shop around, and if you do choose the Blue Paradise I advise calling ahead to make sure your room is guaranteed. I'm disappointed our stay was marred by the horrible treatment we had.
Give it a miss

Firstly, we were moved from the Indochina Hotel to the Blue Paradise because of renovations in the former. We arrived and our room hadn’t even been cleaned. We had to wait 30 minutes for this to happen. Once again, the bathroom was a let down and there was no hair dryer. We had a twin room, but there was only a double duvet for some reason. Staff were pretty vague as well. Breakfast was served at 8am and consisted of coffee and toast – that’s it. If I had my time over, I would have gone out for breakfast. The hotel was in a poor location. I think there are plenty more hotels out there of the same quality or a little better, that have a much better location and breakfast!
