We had a one night stay at the gloria plaza as part of tour of eastern and central china. We were in xian for the same reason as everybody else - to see the terracotta warriors. The hotel itself was probably the best hotel we stayed in during our stay - although the others weren't fantastic! The room was clean and comfortable and crucially was not damp or musty, as every other hotel that we stayed in was in china. Xian itself was a really lovely city and has more to offer than just the terracotta warriors - it was a bit of a shame that we only got to spend 2 days there.

This was a nice hotel it seems quite new, located outside the city walls, but a short walk or taxi ride. The staff were helpful and the room was clean and comfortable ( we had a great view of the old city) We were given a complementary breakfast which was a nice touch and quite good. Overall this hotel was a positive experience. Also the pool area was very nice and clean and relaxing.

We selected the hotel because of Trip Advisor reviews but alas the hotel was undergoing major renovations so that all of the amenities like pool, bar or restaurants (except for overpriced buffet ) were unavailable. No price break, in fact the Olympics inflation was in effect without the amenities it was supposed to cover. We felt vaguely cheated by a hotel that couldn't provide what it advertises. This state of affairs is supposed to prevail for several months, so don't book in Summer of 2008 without checking on the status of the renovations.
Room was comfortable, had small safe, was acceptably clean. Breakfast buffet included in our room was fine with the usual egg station and varied options for both western and asian tastes.
Location for walking out to eat dinner very poor which is a problem since the usual restaurant choices in the hotel were not available. The immediate area has few good restaurant choices, lots of fast food and strip mall type shops.
Internet was 'free' but worthless -- we only managed to get connected for about 10 minutes -- suggesting that the problem was not our machine (we did get connected for 10 minutes after all) but a poor system. The in house staff were responsive and tried to help but useless.

A friend and I booked a quick one-day tour through the Everbright travel agency in Beijing, and the thing that stood out about the Tianyu Gloria Plaza was the mattresses: They weren't the hard ones associated with other hotels in China! A very comfortable sleep in room 2011 (two double beds). Service was efficient and friendly, though the one thing I couldn't get from the front desk was change for a 100-yuan bill/note at 6:30 in the morning. A few Western TV channels (including CNN International and HBO). Well-equipped room, though the hair dryer was on the desk rather than in the bathroom because of a shortage of electrical outlets. One minor complaint: If you turn on the light in the bathroom, the light in the entranceway also turned on, which bothered my friend sleeping in the next bed. Breakfast buffet (included with our tour price) in the third-floor restaurant had Western food and was very good.

Australian Tour Party

This is a new and very comfortable hotel, good value for money and easily accessed. Front desk staff are very helpful and it caters efficiently for many of the big tour parties coming into Xian. Breakfast is Western and Chinese buffet. Rooms are generous, clean and well appointed. Beds are comfortable.
However, it is not really within walking distance to the main tourist areas of Xian Wall, the Drum tower and Bell tower. This means you need to be part of a tour group with a bus, or be prepared to use taxis or public transport (both of with are cheap and plentiful) to get around.
Opposite the Gloria Plaza was a large building site with work going on 24 hours a day. However, double glazing meant it did not annoy our party. We stayed in 2321 and 2316.
Our only disappointment was that the talented professional musician in our party was told not to play the hotel piano.
