I spent 7 nights in this hotel because of my husband business in Bangkok with clients in that area I liked the view of the hotel that I could see the highway of bangkok at night but I would not love to stay there again for such a long time because the breakfast food was not delicious for me . I loved to eat new taste , sometimes me and my boyfriend we walked out to department store near by . The staffs were helpful except when they miscommunicated to each other anyway not so bad hotel for location

We have stayed at the Royal City the second time, mainly because of its location close to the main attractions - Grand Palace, Museums and the Chao Praya River.
On arrival our reservation could not be found - not that anyone bothered to search for it. We weren't on the arrival list, so no one looked at us anymore. As it was late afternoon, we had a lot of luggage and were too tired to find out another place, we asked if there were rooms available. Yes there were we were told by a very unfirendly and unhelpful receptionists.
Our room was quite nice, clean and had all basic amenities, especially considering the price we paid: 1,200 THB per night including breakfast.
In the evening we tried the hotel bar - clearly only catering for the Asian taste: loud Karaoke music with the singers ending up at the tables of the few single men in the bar.
So we left and walked over to Khao San Road. It is only about 200 m by walk but quite dark and very dangerous to cross the main roads by night. Better to ask one of the taxis parking outside to drop you there.
Breakfast was buffet style and (at least before 08.00 am) had a good variety of everything - toast, pastry, hot & cold food, fruits, juices, coffee etc.
The staff again was a big disappointment: there were around 15 staff members standing around and basically doing nothing. When clearing tables, they were talking loudly to each other, shouting from one corner to the other. When I asked for some items to be refilled the first one didn't understand a word, I had to go and find another staff by myself. The second one said "yes" but nothing happened. Tea & Coffee were never refilled.
At the lobby the concierge staff tried to sell overprized taxis (about twice the normal rate to go to the airport) to everyone leaving the hotel.
There was a tour counter in the lobby which obviously doesn\t belong to the hotel - the staff was nice and helpful and even arranged our visas to go to Vietnam. We could contact them at any time and they always were helpful and smiling.
I would recommend the hotel for its location, rooms and facilities (they also have a pool in the 2nd floor and some shops etc. in the hotel). But the staff is a big let down for this otherwise nice hotel.

This is our second visit to Bangkok. We had two nights in this hotel, we chose it so that we would be close to the Grand Palace and it is just a short taxi away. We were on he 19th floor and what a view! Our room was a little tied, but was large and very clean, with all the expected, fridge, safe, minibar etc. There is a small gym and a swimming pool which we didnt have time to use, but looked very nice.
Breakfast is a good mix of eastern and western food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel runs a complementary minibus to Patpong each evening which is about 15mins away -depending on traffic, but the taxi is only about £2 each way. Taxi's around Bangkok are fairly cheap anyway so whatever you want to see it won't cost the earth to get to.
We paid about £25 per night for the room B& B and it well exceeded our expectations.

Excellent hotel for the price!
We arrived in Bagkok, totally worn out after a 24 hour flight - the Royal City Hotel beat our expectations hands down! All teh amenities you can think of, and located reasonably close to all the sights. The Grand Palace was a 150 baht ($4) taxi ride away.
I would definitely stay here again.
