This is the first time that I have ever felt the urge to write a hotel review. We arrived at the Commodore and it seemed okay from the outside. When we entered reception we thought it looked a bit dated and shabby. We were shown to our room and as soon as I put my bag down I noticed toe nail clippings on the bed cover!.
It got worse when I went in to the bathroom, the bath was full of hair, somebody has obviously shaved their legs (I hope it was their legs!) in the bath and the bath had not been cleaned out, I had to do this myself!. The hotel says that it has wifi in every room - it doesnt!, I tried my hardest but could not get a signal in the part of the hotel I was in. I have a brand new laptop and thought it may be the computer, but I soon found out after a trip to Weston town centre that it wasnt my computer after successfully accessing wifi in 3 different places first go!.
We had breakfast the next morning and in all honesty that was the best part of the stay as the food was fine and there was a large selection on offer. To sum up the Commodore - its a very dated hotel, the room was not clean and we did feel we payed far too much for our stay, we would not have paid half the price to stay there. We will not be back and we will not be recommebding it to anybody!.

I have stayed at the Commodore Hotel on a number of occasions (about 6 years was my previous), and was surprised to read some of the negative reports. My recollection is of a well situated hotel offering high standard rooms backed by excellent service and good food.
Alarm bells started to ring from the moment I arrived – the frontage was shabby and the reception area was thread bear. I can only describe the room as disgusting; apart from being totally ramshackle, there was mould around the window, stains on the walls and gunge in the bathroom. I was shown in total 4 rooms and finally settled on the last, which could be described as dated but adequate.
I had booked with my wife on a HB basis but dinner was a disaster. I can best describe the restaurant as ‘closed’. Tables were not laid and the restaurant was deserted. The menu no longer consisted of imaginative dishes that changed daily, but resembled something that you might get from the local greasy spoon. It was not surprising to learn that the restaurant is no longer thriving at the weekend and empty is the norm. We therefore decided to eat in the carvery which was no better; the food was ‘stewed’ and the service terrible. OK, it was only ?4 per head but if you like quality, and not quantity – stay away. I should also mention that all of the public areas are run down and dirty.
This was the final straw and despite it being rather late, I cut my losses and checked out.
My advise; ignore the positive comments. I checked with the management and there are no plans to renovate the rooms as previously suggested. The touches like chocks on the bed were there, but it certainly does not excuse the fact that the hotel is shabby and dirty. Anyway when comparing it with a larger chain, it should be noted that the Commodore has lost both its star rating and Les Routiers accreditation.

It is unusual for me to bother to write a review but for this hotel, I make an exception!!. I write it to make others aware about the state of the room and the service. Granted I can only give my opinion on the room we had but if I had been warned first, I certainley would not have booked. Our room was in the annex. It was shabby with peeling wallpaper. The en suite consisted of a shower cubicle opening directly into the bedroom. The plastic wash basin was in the room and looked like a poor version of a late 70s B & B.
There were cobwebs. The kettle had to be placed on the floor in order to reach the plug socket. Alarms should have rung then but we wanted to eat and as it was cold and wet, decided to eat in the carvery. We couldn`t use the restaurant as there were functions going on. The carvery was tasteless. The yorkshire pudding hard, the roast potatoes mushy, as were the vegetables.
We left as we did our food.
After a very bad nights sleep on a bed with springs sticking into us, we headed for breakfast. We were told to sit where we liked, (that was after waiting for someone to bother to come to us, that I ended up going to find someone to ask) We sat in the window bay but were asked if we would move to the next table out of the pleasant window area because there were no milk and butter on that table!! I said no, so the waitress picked the small milk jug and the saucer of butter and brought it to our table, which was quite literally 3 steps away. Another guest caught my eye as he looked up to the heavens and told us that he had been moved aswell. As we were having our breakfast another couple came and went to sit in the bay area only to be chased away for the same reason!!!!
So ends the one night we spent at the Commodore, with us leaving saying never again!

Right, I dont understand why some people think its such a great hotel, but I think its a horrible hotel. The rooms are really old and outdated, bed is very uncomfortable (I got a sore back the following day), toilet / bathroom needs upgrading (I cant believe they still use shower curtains). For 90 quid, you would have expected something better.
We only booked this hotel because we didnt have any other choice, but I am definitely not going to return to this hotel.

This is a pretty neat hotel, it's cheap but great value for money. Everything's pretty much basic, but a very nice place to stay with fantastic views over the Atlantic Ocean looking towards the South East coast of Wales.
