My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel in Kaprun, Austria. We stayed for a week from the 16th Feb 08. We are regular Skiiers and would put this hotel as one the top of places we have stayed simply because the staff couldnt do enough to help, were proffessional and exceeded expectations on every level.
Lets make sure this is in perspective, this is a Ski resort hotel and they differ, so when it says four star it takes into account the facilities. These arent hotels like you get overlooking hyde park in London. Anyone who knows ski hotels will know what I mean and would like this hotel very much. It is clean and the decor is typically Austrian.
The food is something else at this place. We were treated and I do mean treated to a five course mean every night. The breakfasts are great and set you up for a good day on the sloapes, in the afternon they serve both a sweet and savoury snack and then the onslaught of the dinner. We normally eat out alot while on holiday and this week we just didnt need to. Again lets put it into perspective because there was a little bit of recycling towards the end of the week as you would expect in any hotel but it was very minimal.
The facilities overall were very good with a lovely heated outdoor pool and sauna. This is a must for evryone coming back from a day on slopes.
Summary: I would recommend this to any of my friends

Have just returned from a week at the Sonnblick and found the food is very good , the menu imaginative with flexible meal times and the whole place clean and well presented
The comfort double room we had was very well appointed, we particularly liked the computer with internet access in the room.
The hotel is said to be in a quiet area which is not the case if youhave a room at the front as you can hear fairly constant traffic on the busy local road outside. Also the usual noisy revellersuntil late into the night. The hotel has no residents lounge to sit and relax which leaves you only with a small and smoky bar area which is not at all adequate for non smokers .

We spent 5 days in July in this familiy run hotel. Our decision was made based on the reviews on this site, and must admit we were not disappointed at all !
Location: Kaprun is a good starting place to access famous locations like Grossglockner strasse, Hohenwerfen, famous ice cave Eisriesenwelt, and waterfall in Krimml. Even Hallstatt is not so far from here.
The hotel is just in the city centre, a 5-8 min walk from the Kaprun Burg, nice and quiet athmosphere.
Rooms are big ( we booked a superior room ), equipped with internet access. One negative experience: our room was on the ground floor, overlooking the pool and small playground, which was noisy sometimes, and people in the garden could easily look in our apartment.
Food was superb.
The staff of the hotel and the family did everything to feel ourselves comfortable during our stay.
The wellness area is small but nice, it was very enjoyable to have a drink at the pool in the evening, with the mountain scenery of Kitzsteinhorn in front of us !
Overall we had very nice impressions and sure we will return to this hotel.
Austria is such a nice country with welcoming people and so many beautiful places to experience !!

Have just returned from Kaprun skiing and stayed at the Sonnblick Hotel. The welcome we had from the owner, her daughter and staff couldn't have been more friendly. The hotel is a little tired, but the food was plentiful and extremely good. There is an out door heated pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The bus stops outside the hotel to get to the ski areas and a four minute walk to the local ski pistes. There are were no soaps and shampoos only a soap dispenser which was not sufficient in the bathroom so be prepared to take your own. Towels are provided in the pool area. I would certainly go back to this hotel and would describe it as a small hotel with a big heart and would certainly recommend it.

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Hotel Sonnblick for our annual skiing trip and couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and speak soo many fluent languages very impressive and were faultless throughout our stay. The food was excellent with a huge range and variety for even the fussiest of eaters, hot and cold buffet breakfasts, five course evening meals and a free apres ski snacks for when you return from the slopes great! The bar was really nice and comfy and the hotel give you discounts off the drinks, the more you drink the more discount they give you i.e. spend 20 euros per person per day on drinks get 20% off, spend10 euros per person per day get 10% off etc, excellent wine list too and good selection of non-alcoholic drinks too.
The spa area was a nice touch too, although the whirlpool could have been hotter. We had a small room but we knew this on booking and it was made clear that the room was small but we were very pleased with it, great hot power showers and bath and mini-bar,TV and great free internet access in the rooms so you can check the slopes out before you leave each day! Channel 35 also shows views of the glacier 24 hours a day so you can check out the visability! Its a five minute walk to the villages ski slopes and the bus stop to Zell am See which has some great slopes and the bus to the glacier goes from 100m from the hotel every 30mins(all ski buses are free). The hotel is in a quiet location but close to everything, never heard any traffic or late night revelllers as not that close to bars but all within a five minute walk to supermarket, bars, restaurants, Austrian skittles etc
Only negative thing I could say is I didn't like the smokers in the bar as we're all non-smokers, roll on the smoking ban worldwide!!
Cost indicators:
0.5L beer = 3,80 euros
0.2L wine= 2.7euros
Vodka & coke = 4.4 euros
tea = 2 euros
hot choc = 2.8 euros
mineral water = 2 euros
Bottles of wine from 20 euros
Ski water (fruit squash) = 1.3 euros 0.25L
7 day ski pass = 202.50 euros
Oh yeah and nearby they have a fun park that has tubing, toboganning, and bum boarding whihc isloads of fun,we went with Crystal and they take you but you could get a taxi its well worth it.
