My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in the middle of the Beijing Winter, on my first trip to China. Our room was more like a 1 bedroomed flat. The bedroom had a large double bed, with two arm chairs and a small table, and large built in wardrobes. The bed was quite hard, and there was no dressing table, or television. There was a separate modern bathroom with a shower, a loo and a vanity unit with a sink (no bath). Clean, and towels supplied. The living area was an open plan living/dining/kitchen/hallway area. The kitchen had a microwave, fridge and freezer, and a hob (no oven or dishwasher). There was a modern glass topped dining table which would seat 6, and modern kitchen units. Everything was new, in the lounge there was a small writing desk, a large television (with Chinese TV not western) and a large sofa and armchair. The whole place is very new (opened recently), modern and had air conditioning/heating. The rooms get cleaned almost every day, and there is a room service menu (external). We found the room service was a bit pricy, and only good for Chinese food. The western food we tried was awful, the steak was raw (not even blue…), and very expensive. The hotel does breakfast – but is not up to westerner standards, i.e. no bread, milk, cheese, ham, or good coffee, but Asian instead. Nice if you want to try it ! There is a shop selling convenience foods, a beauty saloon, and a small travel agents in the basement. The staff speak no English, but are very helpful – you can get by with a lot of smiling and some basic Chinese. The biggest downer for me apart from lack of BBC/CNN/Sky news, was that there is no Internet connection – either in your room or in the building itself. I would suggest this is a great place to stay if you want to cook, have your own place, rather than a hotel room, don’t want to spend much and don’t mind the lack of English or catering to western needs.
