We were horrified when we arrived. The reception closes at 7pm - and if you come
on the bus from the airport linking the ryanair pm flight and walk therefrom the
bus station you won't arrive til 7.10. You will then need to have your
confirmation number on you! Don't forget it or you'll be looking for an
interenet cafe to get it off your confirmation email, as you need it (and your
own phone) to call an automated message for a) how to get in the building and b)
how to get your room key once you're in. Have a pen handy for the codes!
We were not happy to discover the room was a double, not a twin, and that the
bed was abutted sideways to the wall because the room is so narrow. We then
discovered it was not even a bed, but a sofabed! However, all was not lost as we
could at least separate out the matresses (hard, but surprisingly comfortable, a
bit like Tempur) so we did not have to sleep next to one another. Pillows were
lumpy. Be careful if two of you want a shower... if the first one is there too
long there won't be enough water for the second.
For £40 a night for the two of us it was cheap but not especially good value
because it's so small, though it is clean. We think it was probably
accommodation for students of the hospital across the road. Also, while it is
only a 15 min walk to the port, it is outside the old town walls and I wouldn't
want to walk back to it at night had I travelled alone (a female), simply
because it felt a bit out of the way. Also, having dumped our stuff and gone for
food when we arrived, we were a bit disconcerted to find on our return later
that the windows were not locked... and we were on the ground floor - one to
check if you stay.
Not a bad place for cheap accommodation, but don't go with high expections

We booked a studio online and planned to stay 7 nights.
The room was advertised as having 2 beds and a fully equiped kichenette.
When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon we had to go through a complicated procedure to get to our room as the reception is closed on Sundays.
Whilst reasonably clean the room was not what we where led to expect.
The kitchenette table had a broken leg and was unusable.
There is no shopping for self catering anywhere near this dump.
The single bed blanket was extreemly old and taty.
The shower tray would overflow if you took longer than a couple of minutes in it, as it was you are standing ankle deep in water.
The pillow were very very thin, (about 40 mm), and hence useless.
After a meal out in La Rochelle the walk back to this place was very dark and daunting, it is not in a good area.
Worst of all the 2 beds were actually a very poor sofa bed, which was small, and very, very hard.
After a restless night we went out first thing in the morning to find a proper hotel.
This we found quite easily, but when we told the reception we were checking out we were told we could only do that by visiting an Internet cafe' to do it online. It was only when we dragged out our booking details that they accepted they could do it.
Even then they tried to get us to sign some sort of legal document written in French which we could not understand.
Naturally we refused! paid in cash and left, never to return!
This outfit is part of a chain, but we will NEVER even consider using them again.
In essence the accomodation may just be acceptable to young backpackers for a night, nothing more.

We'd booked a 1 bed apartment with balcony at the Appart'City Cap Affaires, La Rochelle as we wanted to have the freedom of self catering accommodation, without the restrictions of a hotel.
The accommodation was tired, drab and in urgent need of refurbishment. All the furniture was fairly old and very basic, as was the equipment.
Ir was nice to have a balcony (not all their apartments do) but we were overlooked in all directions by other balconies - some occupied by people who appeared to live there (lots of washing out on lines etc.)
The accommodation was not in a pleasant area - on the edge of an industrial type area.
We were frankly very disappointed and would look for other self catering accommodation in La Rochelle next time - probably do a Google search - we'd definitely not stay at this place again.
