An absolutely charming hotel

We stayed at Senhora da Guia for a long weekend in June. Our choice was mainly based on the reviews we had read and recommendations from some business colleagues in Cascais & Lisbon.
I contacted the hotel directly and they couldn't have been more helpful which gave me reassurance we had made the right choice - we were not disappointed! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left the service exceeded our expectations and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.
The hotel is family owned and absolutely charming with great attention to detail throughout - the furnishings in the rooms and public areas was extremely tasteful.
The pool area was perfect with plenty of room and comfortable sunbeds. If there was any downside, it was the traffic noise from the main road at the front of the hotel, but it certainly didn't spoil anything.
We had bed and breakfast at the hotel included and the breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. We also had lunch everyday at the poolside terrace and the service and food were exceptional. We also tried the restaurant one evening and once again this was excellent.
The hotel is 4 miles from the centre of Cascais and you can hire bikes from the hotel or enjoy a pleasant walk along the seafront - there is a very good cycle/pedestrian path alongside the road. Alternatively take a cab, its approx 6 -10 Euros depending upon the time of day.
Both Cascais & Guincho have excellent restaurants, particularly if you enjoy fish and seafood - but please beware as the restaurants in Guincho can be twice as much as those in Cascais for the same standard. There is a restaurant directly opposite the hotel right on the waters edge and this is well worth a visit - advisable to book especially at weekends.
Overall, we could not fault Senhora da Guia and it is a perfect choice for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in a hotel that maintains extremely high standards in every area.l

We stayed for 4 nights recently and had a fantastic time. Weather was fab, even in February, and complimented the stunning ocean views from our balcony. Service is very good without being too over-the-top. Breakfast is average but food in general was the best we experienced in Cascais. Great bicycle track up and down the coast - well worth hiring the bikes in the hotel for some exercise and freedom. Marina is good for lunch. Great hotel for relaxing in - Will certainly return. We stayed here in June 2007 for 3 nights and were overall very satisfied with the Senhora da Guia. Here's what to expect.
LOCATION - its approx 4km from the main train station in Cascais, located along the coastal road. We took taxis because they are cheap and plentiful. About 5-7 euros for a ride into town. We did walk one day, and although it took 45mins, the scenery was beautiful. The only downside to its location is the fact that the garden and pool area is adjacent to the main road out front. It’s a busy road and the noise can be a little distracting. Although by no means unbearable.
ACCOMADATION - The hotel itself is bright and well maintained. We had a room on the ground floor of the old building and found it very comfortable. It was very spacious, clean and had a huge bathroom with a shower big enough for three!! Although this theory was never proved. The bar area was cozy and led out onto the patio/balcony. This is where breakfast is served and has fantastic views of the ocean. The small gym, Jacuzzi, sauna and massage bed in the basement of the hotel was an added bonus as well.
POOL - The pool is a good size, but just be aware that’s filled with SALT WATER. Which wasn’t a problem, unless you’re used to fresh water pools and aren’t expecting it!!? Around the pool there are plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Staff are on hand to dish out complimentary towels and there is also waiter service poolside....very handy indeed!
STAFF - All of the staff we encountered on our short stay were friendly, courteous and helpful.
The Senhora da Guia is a nice hotel. The only thing that might put you off is its location. If you don't mind taking taxis (that aren't expensive) or walking, then this is definitely worth a look.

The Senhora da Guia is a very elegant property in front of the ocean but... there is a busy road at day just in the middle and unfortunately, it's hard to relax in the pool area because it's really too noisy and to relax is impossible.
However, at night, the peaceful and sereine atmosphere comes back and thus, you can feel much better in your room, large, well decorated with nice pieces of furniture and a lovely scheme of colours. The comfort of the bed is very satisfacting and there is a good breakfast buffet for a nice wake up. About the soundproofing, our room was located in the old building and be sure it's very quiet and i haven't hear any noise from an other room.
About the staff, if the front desk staff is particularly smily and efficient (except the one for the check out because the bill wasn't correct and he has had a lot of difficulties to trust me about the rate i'd booked... not very professionnal...), the staff at the restaurant is so-so, nice but not very elegant. But in general, it's good.
But the main problem is maybe the location because if you can have some great views, it's located far from Cascais, approximatly 5 kilometers (and not 3 as indicated) and there isn't any complimentary shuttle service. You have to take a taxi at each time and it costs about 5-6 euros per way... A bit boring...
Consequently, i can't say this is the best choice in Cascais but this is a good hotel, extremly comfortable and a good value for a five stars hotel.

Indeed very nice hotel, very friendly staff BUT...........
walls between rooms in new wing are made of paper.
You can hear EVERYTING from nextdoor rooms, tv's, conversations, bath/shower, toilet (YES). Doorlocks are made that you have to slam the door when leaving the room (hearing 20 doors slam when people go out for breakfast, returning from breakfast etc. is no fun when you are trying to sleep). We moved to a room upstairs wich was just very little better so we gave up.
Staff is very friendly but give sometimes wrong information: We asked how much a taxi would be on a saturdaymorning to Sintra , they said 35,00/40,00 euro each way. Actual rate was 17,00 euro.
Rooms are nice decorated, beds very good, breakfast perfect, restaurant very good, poolside very nice too but 5 stars ? No way.
