Across the bridge from the Zurich main train station is the Hotel Rutli, which I can only describe as interesting.
The room was comfortable and pretty roomy for a hotel in the middle of old Zurich. Luckily, we didn't get one of what seems to be the Rutli's more "artistic" rooms.
And yes, depending on when you are staying, it can be noisy; it's right on zaehringerstrasse which is a pretty major road in the downtown area.
Overall, I had a very nice stay and was impressed with what I was prepared to be disappointed with.

The bedroom was in wooden floor, clean, basic.
All TV channels were in German.
No free internet connection.
No kettle/tea/coffee inside the room.
Location was good though. Close to supermarket "Coop", main train station, and a major tram station.
That area is quite quiet at night but Zurich seems like a safe city.
Price-wise, it's cheaper than most hotel in Zurich given the close location to the train station, but I'm not sure if I would stay there again if I had the choice.
