Having seen many positive reviews on this hotel, I decided to book a room for one night through the Switzerland Travel Center website. The first booking of a CHF 210/night twin room was not successful for some
technical reason and the computer came back with an error message saying something like reservation failed. I had to go through the same
booking process again and finally got a CHF 200/night twin room (the CHF 210/per night room was gone) which was confirmed by a following email from the online agent. A couple of hours after we checked in, the hotel reception staff called our room to inform us that they received a double booking for the same night from the booking center. I explained what has happened about the technical glitch of the booking system, but the staff insisted that they will charge my credit
card for the second room, totally disrespecting the fact that I did not receive any confirmation email for the first booking. She was very
rude and unprofessional during the entire disputation.
One more thing, the reservation confirmation said that a porter will pick up guests from the Zermatt railway station. However, no one was there to pick us up and we had to ask 5 people for direction and spend
25 minutes to get to the hotel. The same hotel staff said we should have called the hotel before arriving, which she believes is a
"common sense"....
I could warn anyone who is considering booking this hotel that they do not care how you feel as a guest and only cares about how much to charge you.

We booked into the "view of matterhorn" double room and it was great! The view was fantastic and the room was very clean, typically swiss sloped, with skylights over the room and bathroom. The only thing that we thought could have been improved was the twin beds joined together. It wasnt too comfortable to squeeze into one bed.
When we arrived at zermatt, there was a hotel transport for us. The people at the hotel were just great, friendly and very helpful. The hotel is in a good location, pretty much a walking distance to any part of the town, railstation and cable cars. Breakfast was typically continental mainly cold cuts. Try the table with the view.
I strongly recommend this hotel for its location, good rooms with a fantastic view, great staff and value for money.
ps. the photos that you see on this website and the ones from the hotel is exactly what you get!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Couronne in October/ 2007. We loved everything. The staff was very helpful and receptive. Our bedroom was in the 4th floor and the view from the balcony was awesome. We could see the Matterhorn just in front of us. The bedroom was very good, king size bed, plasma TV and the bathroom had a bathtub. The breakfast was great. The hotel has a great location, near the train station and also near the main cableway station. We recommend this fabulous hotel.

Stayed here again for 4 nights mid sept and once again enjoyed the nice clean property with fine matterhorn view... ..
couronne continues to offer a very fine breakfast buffet that includes fresh fruit salad hot hardboiled eggs and really excellent assortment of good quality breads and rolls-
the glassed in breakfast room with a full on view of the matterhorn adds to the great ambiance
they have mastered the art of customer service as this is one of the few hotels where the serving folks come to your table and ask if you have enough coffee etc
a pleasure to lhave left steamy miami for some sunny dry days in the alps

My fiance and I stayed here for 1 night in September 2007 - room 502 - a junior suite. Cost ranges from 230 to 310 Euro per night depending on the season
We were in Geneva for my business trip and had a weekend so we came up to Zermatt (2.5 hr drive). One night in Zermatt and then one night at the Klum Hotel on the top of the mountain (separate review).
The place is rated 3 star. It is lovely - everything is in good shape and looks quite new. The view of the Matterhorn from our balcony was breathtaking.
Room: Very spacious. Large separate living area with desk / tv / chair and couch. Bed was 2 twins put together - you had the crack down the middle. Lots of storage / hanging space. There is a heater in the room itself (didn't need yet).
Bathroom - enormous - large separate bath and shower, lots of counterspace. Hair dryer, weight scale in kg. Not much for tolietries - just a shampoo / body wash combined. No robes. Even the bathroom windows had a nice view to the village.
Breakfast - was included in the room price. Typical European breakfast - breads, cold meats, cheese, yogurt, cereal, fruit plus hard boiled eggs, and juice. All the foods were good quality items. The dining room looks out towards the Matterhorn and the village.
Elevator - there are two elevators in the hotel. They go to the fourth floor. If you are staying on the fifth floor then you have to walk up one flight of stairs.
Security - you need to use your card key to enter the hotel after 10:30 pm. Small safe inside the room. Felt very safe all around Zermatt. No issues.
Internet - wireless internet in the room although the connection can be a bit sketchy on the 5th floor. You can go elsewhere in the hotel or use one of their 2 free terminals on the reception level. A printer is connected to one of them.
TV - in the room had multiple stations with CNN, BBC & BBC Prime in English.
Staff - the staff were great. The nice lady at reception answered all of our questions and was always very friendly. Same with the dining room staff
Room Service - none. Small minibar in room - not one of those automatic ones so you could store a few items in it if you want.
Fitness - Sauna but no gym. There is a fitness facility within Zermat though. But just go out the door and start hiking - 400 km (240 miles) of hiking trails. Mountain biking, para gliding. In the winter of course there is skiing and still 40 km of hiking trails available. Even in the summer there is glacier skiing. Zermatt also has tennis courts and I saw a football (soccer) field as well.
They have storage for ski gear.
Runners: There is a trail that goes towards Zmutt that is good for running on. Saw several people doing it. All uphill one way :)
They also have a fair size restaurant which was very busy at dinner time. There is also a ski shop in the building and you get a discount if you purchase something there.
Across the street is a bakery and a grocery store. There is a second larger grocery store in the village as well.
Restaurants - lots around but a bit pricey if you are on a tight budget. Lots of grills, swiss traditional (including fondue), pizza places. For vegetarian / vegan the friendliest I found was The Pipe - a fushion of African / Indian and Asian food. They serve both meat and vegan / vegetarian dishes. We both thought our dinners were excellent. Take a right out of the hotel, across the bridge and it is on your left before the church.
Things to do - see Fitness above. There are several cable cars that you can take to the tops of various mountains to enjoy the view or do more hiking. You can take the cog train up to Gornergrat or stop at one of the other stations on the way up. The view is outstanding. Zermatt village is lovely and they have some historic buildings from the 14th & 15th century still. Lots of bars if you are interested.
Getting There - drive or take the train to Tache. If driving you must park your car there - they are not allowed in Zermatt. There are only some electric taxis and electric vehicles from the hotels. From Tache you must take the train (only about 10 min and approx 7 CHF one way per person) to Zermatt. The place where we parked our car shuttled us over to Zermatt included in our parking price. Most hotels will pick you up from the train station. This hotel both picked us up and dropped us off there when we left.
I took a look in some of the open rooms after people left and they all appeared in nice shape with good furnishings and similar decor, although obviously smaller than the junior suite. I would stay in any of them.
We both would very happily stay in this hotel again. We loved our room, the view and the staff. If you love the mountains and outdoors go to Zermatt.
