I am currently staying in the Omni William Penn in Pittsburgh (July 2008). The location of the hotel is convenient to the convention center, a few blocks away. It's a historic hotel and the lobby is very old-school ornate. The check-in process was quick and the woman who checked me in was very nice.
There are two banks of elevators. One seems to move faster than the other, depending on which day it is! It doesn't matter which one you take, just make sure that you follow the arrows to find your room. It can be a bit confusing because of the layout of the hotels three extensions. My room is at the end of the hall, which is great because it cuts down on the internal noise. But the external construction noise from down the street comes through the windows pretty easily.
The room has a closet and bath before entering the main section. The king bed has four feather pillows. I did request foam pillows later and two were delivered really quickly. (Nice housekeeping staff too) Two nightstand each have a lamp. There's a desk that has room to put a laptop with a good desk light. The TV armoire, small armchair and ottoman and a small side table round out the furniture. While it's not super luxurious, it is comfortable. The bed has a duvet, which makes it seem much cleaner than a comforter. The bath has a marble top vanity and a low toliet. The shower is adequate and has a curved shower rod with a cloth shower curtain. The water pressure in the shower is good. Bath amenities are nice too. The air conditioning unit took a little time to kick in, but it's nice and cool in my room now.
Internet access is free for Select Guest members. Otherwise, it's $9.95 per day. (Might as well sign up for the free program since you do get the internet.) The staff I've encountered so far in my three days here are genuinely helpful and nice. The Tap Room is good. I have not eaten in the restaurant, nor do I think I will because of my schedule.
This is my second time at this hotel. I stayed here for one night a few years ago and have no complaints. I probably would stay here again if I needed to be in downtown Pittsburgh and could secure a decent rate.

I got a great deal on Hotwire and was happy with the hotel. I had stayed at the Omni in Chicago in January and was disappointed overall. The Pittsburgh hotel was a pleasant surprise- the rooms very clean and comfortable (the beds were great) and the elevators fast. The dining options are a good mix of cheap and upscale. When they let us check in 3 hours early no questions asked, I knew I was in downtown Pittsburgh and not Chicago. .

We had a wonderful stay at the Omni... It is a very centraized location in downtown and very safe. Everyone in the hotel was very friendly and we were even upgraded to a suite. I would not hesitate to stay here ever! It is a gorgeous building and I cannot think of ANYthing negative to say about it.
Walking distance to the stadiums (maybe like 15 minutes) Walking distance to the strip district. Walking distance to station square and the Mono Incline. Concierge and desk staff are knowledgeable of the area and friendly.

High tea is low value
Guest name: VinnyPittsburgh, Pittsburgh
The William Penn offers high tea in the afternoon. A grand idea in a grand setting. For the price, it doesn't provide value.
The sandwiches are meager, the scones are not really scones, and the cake selection is poor- they are not really cakes.
On top of it, the bread of the sandwiches had dried out while they were waiting to be served. A complaint to the manager brought an assurance that the sandwiches were made that day, which wasn't the point-t they were dry. They did take the plate away and provided a new batch equally dry.
It is really a shame because with care and some work it would be a great experience in Pittsburgh.
