Nikko hotel is conveniently based 10 minutes walk from the delightful shopping district and old town dusseldorf and 5 minutes away from the train station and airport shuttle buses.
Staff are nice and the rooms were spotless and sufficient, but extras are very expensive

Booked this hotel through Last Minute the day I checked in and was very glad that I did. It was cheaper than many 3* places and enjoys a central location close to the main railway station and shopping.
Staff at the hotel are friendly and multi-lingual and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are very smart with a large LCD TV and bathroom with great shower. Room service is reasonably priced and it was very quiet with little outside noise.
I love Dusseldorf and will make this my first choice to stay when I return.

Since we booked this hotel on a weekend deal (since it is a business hotel it offers rooms in the weekend at a much cheaper rate) we did not pay too much, but we still feel that we did not get value for money.
This hotel is (as the name says it too) primarly a hotel for Japanese business travelers in Düsseldorf. We, as weekend guest were given a bit the feeling by the staff that we might praise ourselves lucky that we could stay in that classy hotel for such a cheap price.
Although the rooms and bathroom were very clean, the top roof swimming pool wasn't. My wife and I felt that the swimming pool area hadn't been cleaned for several days, so we did not let our baby swim in the pool.
The prices in the whole hotel are of Japanese standard (very expensive), but since you are on walking distance of many restaurants in Dusseldorf, this should not be an issue.
We will return to Düsseldorf, but not to hotel Nikko.

I stayed at the Nikko for 2 weeks for business and stayed over a weekend so I could tour around Dusseldorf.
Its located in the Japanese business district which is a 5 minute walk from the main train station and about 10-15 minutes walk from the main shopping areas and the Altstadt where a lot of bars and cafes are. For those not prepared to walk, a taxi will cost approx 8-10 Euros. There are plenty of Japanese restaurants in the area but the 3 I tried (including the one in the hotel) were adaquate but not overly impressive by London standards.
Beacause I booked most of my stay through a special deal on a travel site I received free breakfast for most mornings (usual price 19 Euros). Breakfast was fine, the service was occassionally sloppy, the
selection of food was slightly above average but not good enough in my opinion to justify the 19 Euro price tag. What really irritated me and a colleague was that the juice glasses were 100ml meaning everyone was constantly having to go up regularly to get refills - I ended up just taking 2 glasses every time. It was irritating because in a 5 star hotel where you're paying 19 Euros for breakfast they could at least give you a regular sized glass to drink from.
During the weekend I was staying, the weather forecast was for it to be hot (28-30C). The aircon was not functioning properly and after I called reception I was informed that they couldn't call the technician to adjust the aircon until after the weekend. I'm sorry, but the forecast was for it to be hot from Thursday and when I'm paying as much as I was, I expect them to be able to afford a technician on a Saturday to adjust their aircon system. I was initially offered a fan for my room but had a call back after a few minutes to say none were available and there's nothing they could do.
In the evening I wanted to use the gym and pool. Both are on the top floor and the gym area is in a double-glazed within the floor. It was
like an inferno, even at 9pm so I lasted all of 10 minutes before having to leave. Headed to the ice box to get a cold drink to find that all the ice had melted and no one had thought to replace it. Again, I'm sorry but for them to charge 15 Euros per user per day to staying guests would be a rip-off even if it was a great facility, but it wasn't and that made the experience even more bitter. I was later informed that if I upgraded to a superior room (slightly larger) for 50 Euros then they'd include the use of the gym and pool - didn't leave a good impression on me.
Whilst speaking to the reservations team about some of my issues I was informed that its a business hotel which is why they have charges
for leisure facilities (fair enough, but then why is it 24 Euros/day to use the Internet?)
Not all was doom and gloom, staff were friendly and the bar area had some live musicians some nights.
However, I would not be likely to return until they fix their aircon,
fix the inferno otherwise known as the gym and get rid of the 15 Euro
price tag for hotel guests to use the leisure facilities and somehow cleanse the general feeling that they try to extract money from you at every turn.
There aren't many genuine 4/5 star hotels in Europe that would try to pull the same stunts and this is no less true of Dusseldorf - there are certainly other alternatives.
