This hotel was not clean. And they would not return my money after I had went into room and found some not so nice things on my bed sheets. I was in the room for only 30 minutes and pulled back sheets and immediately went to front desk and told the clerk I would like my money back. She called manager and he told her we would have to come back following day to get our money. We then went across the street to Best Western where we were treated very well. What a big difference between the two places. I went back over the next day and was told that manager would not give money back because we were in room for a hour. Half of that hour was downstairs talking to clerk. Had not even unpacked car when seen how nasty the bed linens were. Never again will I lower myself to ever returning to one of these establishments.

I needed a place to stay in Newport News for a few days to take care of family business. A relative suggested the Hampton Inn, but I thought the daily rate of $98.00 was too expensive so I checked this site for other hotels in the area which had good reviews and a reasonable price. I decided to stay at the Microtel Inn and booked the room via Travelocity since they had the cheapest daily rate of $48.00.
The room was smallish but very clean and suited my needs perfectly. The pillows are very flat so I requested a few extra ones and they were delivered promptly. All local and long distance calls were free so I didn't have to make costly long distance calls with my cell phone. There is no pool or exercise room, but free access to Bally's gym was available with my key card. The location is in close proximity to many popular restaurants, stores, and the Patrick Henry Shopping Mall.
The continental breakfast included waffles, danish, and bagels with cream cheese. The first morning I couldn't find any butter on the buffet table, so I asked the desk clerk to get it, but she said they ran out. The next morning I expected to have butter, figuring a hotel employee would have gone out to get it, but it wasn't there. At this point other guests were complaining about not having butter, so I figured the next morning it would be there, but
it wasn't. I felt the hotel should not have let three days go by without supplying it and was disappointed.
I brought my laptop with me when I read there was wireless internet access, but it didn't work after the desk clerk showed me how to set it up on my computer. I have Windows Vista so it could have been my computer that was the problem. When I asked if other guests who have Vista got connected, the clerk didn't answer me, but he did tell me that wireless connections work only in certain areas of the hotel.
I was disappointed that the desk clerks didn't seem very knowledgeable regarding the local area and couldn't recommend a recommend a nearby florist, or more than one or two restaurants that delivered food to the hotel, although one female clerk offered to look up information on-line for me when she couldn't answer my questions.
I would definitely stay again, even with the minor glitches, for the reasonable price, cleanliness, and great location.

My wife and our 2 year old son stay at this hotel for 3 nights (August 2007) while visiting the Virginia beach area. We didn't expect much since we only paid $300 Cdn tax included for the three nights. Upon checking in, we were very please with the staff, the lobby, and our room. The staff was friendly and check us in very quickly. The lobby was very clean and tidy. We didn't have to wait long for the elevator. Our room was clean and tidy. The air conditioner worked really well since it was 93 F all three days we were there. The exterior of the hotel was clean and well kept. There were plenty of parking on both sides of the hotel. All in all, the hotel itself was very very good.
Now let's talk about the surrounding area. When we booked this hotel, we were a little concern about the area (crime, amenities etc) because of the low price of the hotel and the fact that we have never been to this area before. Wow!! that's what we said when we arrived. The area is amazing. The hotel is very close to Interstate 64 so it was very easy to find. The hotel is off Jefferson Street and what a beautiful area with all the amenities you can find except for a bank. Patrick Henry mall was across the street (very nice mall). KFC, MacDonalds, and other dine in restaurants was just around the corner. Toy r us, Costco, Best Buy, Sam's club, and Wal mart was literally within walking distance. The area was very nice, clean and not run down at all. We arrived back at the hotel late (all three nights) and we were not concern at all of getting rob. The only set back of the area is the traffic on Jefferson can get very busy. Also the drive to Virginia Beach is about 40 minutes. I didn't mind the drive since the drive is very scenic (thru cities, bridges, underwater tunnel).
We didn't want to spend $900 for three nights staying at a hotel by the beach so we pick this hotel. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget and don't care about ocean view room and don't mind the drive down the beach.
