What a wonderful hotel!
Absolute beachfront with a semi-private beach which you will appreciate if in Noumea on a weekend.
Loads of beach chairs and a beautiful pool, and lovely garden area to sit beachfront in the shade all day with a bar nearby.
You can only use the kayaks or other vessels until 4pm which drove us nuts as we wanted to go out around then each day when it cooed down. Still a good service though, and private for guests only unlike the other Ansa Vata beach hotels.
Not super luxurious accomodation like it's sister hotel on Isle of Pines, but great.
Nice roomy rooms with bathtubs and balconies almost all the upper level roms have a water view of some kind even if through the trees.
Great room service.
The staff were amazingly nice and friendly with great english skills, and professional.
There are several restaurants though we only ate in the Japanese one as we did not want buffet, and the Hippocamp was too "gamey" and expensive for us.
It is only a short walk to Anse Vata beach or Palm Beach where you can dine out to your hearts content, and quite economically too. The pizzeria was amazing - looks terrible but awesome food.
We tried the chinese but they were too rude so we left.
There is a nice swimming beach at the hotel, better at high tide but still okay for a dip at low tide. There is lovely coral just past the pier, towards the overwater restaurant, but watch out for terrible pollution there on outgoing tides from the nearby creek. Check your tides first.
Don't swim at Ansa Vata beach particuarly after rain or on an outgoing tide as some dreadful muck comes out of the stream at
the end of the beach - we saw toilet paper - and the current takes it down the beach to the swimming area.
We had a look at other hotels we could have stayed at on Ansa Vata Beach and were so gald we choose Le Meridien - it is the only true beachfront one and it ts well worth the extra money, and we would have regretted it if we had chosen Nouvata Park instead.
Things to do:
No-one will tell you anything unless you practially beg about what there is to do when you get to Noumea so here are some tips:
*Go online and order all the Jasons maps you can before you leave home so you can make plans.
*Take a water taxi from the main beach hut to Duck Island only 5 minutes away for $1000cfp!! it is an awesone snorkelling marine reserve with millions of fish and amazing coral. Get a brochure from the info centre first so you know where to snorkel. You can rent chairs and umbrellas for only a small fortune on the island. It is 100% coral so you can't sit on the sand easily. There is a restauant there too.
*You can also water taxi to Coral Palms.
*Take a trip to Amedee lighthouse with Mary D cruises- a lovely coral island where you can snorkel and feed the sharks too! The coral is about 100 metres out so remember to swim hard! Best at high tide. Book from home and you get a good package deal for the day. Good value if you are a snorkeller, otherwise, a bit expensive.
*Walk up the top of Ouen Toro - get a map from the info - amazing views.
*Go into town to the market. The rest of town is dull and grotty, unles you find the flash french area.
*We wanted to use the Noumea Explorer service- but unfortunatly the two times we waited on it it never showed up. If are wanting to use this service, make sure you have money for a taxi in case it doesn't come at all.
*Use the twice daily little train for a day trip around Noumea - really neat ,and reliable. Ask for a brochure at the info on Anse vata beach or your hotel.
* Go to the Isle of Pines and stay at the amazing Le Meridien beachfront hotel there - just incredible! But even more expensive for food than you can imagine. Worth it.Hire a car and explore the island.

I stayed here for a week over the Christmas period. The hotel itself is nice but definately not 5 star. The quality and finish is more of a 4 star standard.
Our ocean view rooms were immaculate with well provided amenities. The
bathroom was very large with a bath, separate shower, separate toilet & privacy shutters which opened onto the main bedroom area. The beds and pillows were ok ... not the best... the beds seemed to be very firm and the pillows very soft. It also lacked enough pillows which made it hard to read or watch tv in bed. The balcony was a good size with a nice view of the wedding chappel, gardens and surrounding reef.
The mini bar was probably the worst stocked mini bar I have ever encountered.
The reception and conceirge desks were staffed by the most unfriendly and rude staff I have ever encountered. One day we went to change money there at 9am and were told it couldn't be done until 2.30pm because they were too busy. There were no other guests at the reception desk and it was staffed with 3 people! This was a major inconvenice as there is no ATM nearby and the closest one doesnt open until 11.30am! If you want to spend the day exploring make sure you organise EVERYTHING the day before!
We also had problems with the hotel arranging transfers for us. In short despite making 3 international calls before leaving to confirm our hotel transfer we arrived in Noumea & discovered there was no transport waiting for us. We ended up waiting at the airport for 1.5 hours & finally organised our transfer ourselves. It is not easy to get a cab either!
We also had numerous problems with booking dinner at the restaurants. The reception desk took our booking for Christmas Eve lunch 2 days before. When we arrived we were told there was no booking and it was an inconvenience to the staff to seat us. We were finally seated outside...upon a drain. This happened numerous times despite us confirming our bookings with reception 2 and 3 times. Each time this happened the hostess acted like we had majorly inconvenienced her.
We also had a tour organised by the conceirge to the Ile Des Pins which included the catamaran trip over, transfers, lunch at the Le Meridien & use of the beach and pool & an island tour. This was the WORST tour we have EVER been on. We arrived around 11.30am and were seated at the restuarant at 12pm exactly we werent served our 2nd course until 1.30pm! We ended up saying no to our PAID dessert as we only had 15 minutes before we had to leave for the island tour! This meant we had basically 1/2 hour to explore the beautiful beach. The island tour was an absolute rip off. The driver did not say one word to us the entire trip & drove in a very unsafe manner. We were dropped
off at random locations around the island. We were not told what any of the sites were called, any of it's history, or how long we could spend at each site. The tour guide was more interested in smoking a cigarette and talking on his mobile. We were also very concerned we were going to miss our boat trip back to Noumea & depsite being at the
beach next to the jetty the driver took us all the way back to the Le Meridien for some unknown reason. We kept asking him to take us back and he would simply say OK and keep driving. It turned out that the Reception staff at the Le Meridien had called him & told him to bring us back so we could pay. One hour later we arrived back at the Le Meridien and was simply told to go to the Reception & no reason was given. The Le Meridien in Noumea had explained to us that the whole trip would be charged to our room. There was a bus full of angry people waiting for us so the bus could leave. The boat ended up being delayed because of this lack of communication & it was very embarassing for us. This would have been a major inconvenience if we had not brought credit cards with us. The final straw was when we arrived back at Noumea at 7.30pm after a 3 hour boat trip and found that the Le Meridien had no booked a return taxi from the jetty as promised and confirmed. We ended up waiting 1 hour for a taxi as we did not have a mobile and there were no pay phones nearby.
Also the delerlict apartment block covered with graffiti isnt very inspiring to look at!
One a more positive note the food was a very high quality and the pool
area & beach was very well maintained. The staff in these areas were also fantastic as well.

Stayed in Le Meridien for 10 days.
I have read very bad reviews about this hotel, however it was fine.
The rooms were good with all the usual ameneties, linnen was changed every day(as it should be) the staff were friendly and helpfull.
However i have stayed in lots of Starwood hotels, and would not rate this one as one of their better ones.
House keeping was not quite up to standard.
porters none available.
but overal bearable.
We only had a few meals in the hotel, as they were very expensive.
continental breakfast $35.00 pp (just juice croissant and coffee)
lunch 2 ceasars 2 beers 2 coffee NZ$108.00.
Most of our meals were consumed at Lemon bay a 15 minute walk down the road (use the shortcuts)
for further info about the area feel free to contact me

We stayed here as a 2-for-1 offer from New Zealand.
Room was lovely, King size bed, large private balcony (we were at the very end of a block with the balcony shaded by trees), good bathroom, ample toiletries, mini-bar/fridge. Our beds were turned down on a couple of nights.
Pool area was good with swimming pool, loungers, complementary towels. It's one of the few hotels in Noumea right on the beach so you can enjoy the best of both worlds (pool & beach). There are heaps of watersports: catamarans, snorkelling, windsurfing, pedal boats etc. There is a petanque pitch and games room with billiards, table tennis and table football. There's a tennis court but this isn't so flash. It's also a great location for kite surfing but you would need to bring your own gear.
The gardens are lovely, there is a set of brochures in the lobby which you can use to walk around the grounds telling you about some of the species.
We didn't eat here as it was quite pricey but chose to walk most evenings to the Baie De Citrons (about 30 minutes) where there is a good selection of bars and restaurants. This was ideal for working off the yummy food!
The hotel is also on the green bus route which will take you past the above restaurants and then continue into the central town so if you don't feel like walking, it's not a problem.
Definitely recommend this hotel.
