This hotel is spectacular. The rooms are clean and HUGE. We took a double sea view room (two beds) for two that could easily accommodate four. Also brilliant is the free broadband internet and the flatscreen TV with a DVD player to boot! The service is snappy and always with an endearing and earnest smile. The buffet lunches and dinner choices at the Circle Restaurant in the lobby are first-rate. And the nightly rates can be unbelievably cheap. Check their website for offers and discounts. All in all, Le Meridien offers great value for money in terms of accommodation quality.
The location could not be better: smack dab in the middle of Kota Kinabalu, with the best shopping outlets downtown (Centre Point, Api-Api and Warisan Centre) just next door. In addition, the waterfront is just across the street from the hotel, with the Handicraft market and an array of nice and clean seafood restaurants. The hotel is also close to KK airport. The taxi fare to the airport is only 20 RM one-way.
Sure Tanjung Aru, Sutera Harbour or Rasa Ria are somewhat more elaborate, but these hotels seem more adequate for an all inclusive resort getaway-style vacation. If you are just stopping over for a day or two on your way to other destinations in Sabah or Sarawak and want to explore Kota Kinabalu, Le Meridien is your best choice: it offers great service, excellent accomodation and great location for very competitive prices.
If you do choose Le Meridien KK, get one of the sea view rooms. The view of KK harbour, Pulau Gaya and Likas bay is really worth the extra 80 RM or so.

Best value of any hotel I've ever visited.

What a great hotel. The rooms are huge and luxurious. The included breakfast was delicious (especially the waffles!). The view of the ocean and night market is stunning. The location right by the water downtown couldn't be better. I'm not sure why there was a peculiar smell in the hallway, but that seemed to be a trend in Malaysian hotels. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
Not as good as other reviews say

Decided to stay there based on other reviews and was disappointed. The hotel lobby was nice and the deluxe room spacious. However on closer inspection, the room wasn't up to the standards expected - stains on the chaise, stationery folder only had a couple of envelopes in it, no local telephone directory, shower only dribbled tepid water.
However, staff were very pleasant and helpful but there's a lot to improve.

Absolutely Loved It!

I have travelled to different Starwood properties all over the world and was amazed by this hotel located in the very heart of the quaint sea side city of Kota Kinabalu. Although my stay was quite brief , I thoroughly enjoyed it and the hotel was definetily one of the main reasons of this. The service was typical Le Meridien as was the general ambience of the place. The sheer size of the rooms is enough to coax any traveller back to this hotel.
I really enjoyed the Circle Restaurant in the hotel and the pool area of the establishment. While the size of the pool is not the largest it certainly provides a relaxing atmosphere during the sunset period. Kota Kinabalu is one of my favourite places to visit in South East Asis as it offers a sort of a sense of authenticity to travellers like myself who have often seen their favourite travel locations transformed into mass commercialized holiday hot spots.
I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting KK as the locals call it. Gaya or Gayana Resort (I cant remember the name) is also another place I would recommend to travellers visiting this part of the world. My stay there was almost reminiscient of an early visit I had to Koh Samui before it became fully commercialized.
Superb hotel

Stayed there from 22nd May to 27th May 2008 .Four of us went and stayed in two deluxe partial seaview rooms.Definitely amongst one of the best places we have stayed.Service was top notch and our various requests were attended to immediately.
The breakfast was very good with a wide local and continental spread . We also had their seafood dinner which is available on Saturdays.Good value for money with fish and crabs and prawns and other assorted seafood cooked in different ways (even Japanese tempura style where you pick fresh items and give to the chef who makes it for you immediately).
Any downsides?.Yes but it is related to stuff beyiond the hotel's control.Like the fact that there is a fishery port next door with strong smells. The hotel proper is well insulated except for the pool .The filipino market opposite is colourful but do beware of pickpockets.
But overall, we did have an outstanding time there .My children utilised the pool on several occasions and once they were given drinks and fruits free of charge.Nice gesture which i have never encountered anywhere .
