The hotel is quite nice, at least 4 stars. Rooms were clean and large. Service was good. Western food at the Le Cafe buffet was mediocre (not expecting much since the hotel is in China and one should avoid Western food here) but the Guangdong restaurant on the fifth floor (with great views) was pretty good. Gym is nicely equiped. Indoor and outdoor pools were nice (although I thought the indoor pool was a little cold for my tastes).
Clientele were mainly expats although some local Chinese were present. Hotel includes a lake with small beach (excellent for children) and tennis courts. A golf course is nearby as is the famous She Shan cathedral.
Regarding the brothel comment, I did not partake of the sauna so cannot confirm but it is well known in China that saunas are typically brothels, although it is surprising to find that at a Western branded hotel. That said, I did not see any prostitution at the hotel (e.g., no phone calls from prostitutes or prostitutes in lobby area, etc. that is typical at many Chinese hotels). All in all, I think it is a great family hotel. Perfect for a long weekend.

Starwood or Le Meridien needs to think about this hotel urgently. Although the hotel's facilities were really good but the actual management and staffs are way below even the lowest grade of international hotel. I had all kinds of troubles. First of all, most hotel staff does not speak or understand English at all. I just can't think of this hotel as a five star international hotel which they claim.
One of the worst thing that I encountered at this hotel is massage service provided by its hair salon. When I checked in, there was a small trinket about "Traditional Chinese Massage" service ad. I went down to hair salon, and asked massage service, and I was escorted to one of "massage rooms" there. And, then a masseuse started massage. In about 10 minutes into massage, she told me "Do you want happy time with hand" while touching my private part. I was utterly shocked, and I said "NO." I thought that she was only joking. But, she keep doing something very strange, and made me very unpleasant. I couldn't stand any more, and left the massage room. She hastily followed me, and shouted xx amount and 15% tax and service charge. I put that in my room account and went straightly to front desk to make a formal complaint. Well, all four front desk staffs do not speak English at all hence really understand what I want. I asked to talk to either General Manager or Duty Manager. A Chinese man came out, and I explained the situation. He told me that I should go to Le Spa, which is its flagship spa facility. He offered a similar service at Le Spa with compliment but I declined because I was in a very unpleasant condition. He told me that he will investigate, and mentioned that he will shut down the facility. I didn't get any formal explanation or follow-up investigation even I was checking out. It gave me an impression of this hotel not as a five star international hotel but a brothel with well-equipped facilities.
Also, I would like to recommend to avoid the hotel's Le Cafe restaurant. The staffs there do not have any "service" mentally at all. Almost all the time, the restaurant is run like a kinder-garten. When I ordered Asian menu, I also needed to ask "chop-stick" too. Isn't it natural to provide "chopstick" for Asian menu? Almost empty water never refilled until asked, and nobody shows up until I actually shout "HELLO."
The hotel provide shuttle bus service to and from downtown Shanghai which is good but do not provide any PA in English at all, and driver does not speak English at all. It was always a guessing game. Is it to or from hotel?
This hotel does not live up to Starwood standard, and should be renamed or something else.

Been there for a business conference.
The hotel is wonderful, placed in a national park.
Far away (20km) from the crowded Shanghai, it has a huge list of features as indoor and outdoor pool, spa, a ball room, several restaurants, ...
The rooms are extremely huge if compared to other 5 stars hotel in Shanghai city, all with big lcd tvs, very impressive bathrooms.
The staff is now more trained to deal with westerns (they speak English).
The level of service is pretty high (compared to other Chinese hotels).

Spent a couple of nights at the Meridien she shan which was recommended by some friends and we had a few surprises:
1- upon check in, paperwork was all prepared at a higher rate , so we had to come back to front desk and had to change this..oh sorry was the usual reaction.
2- at the (beautiful) outdoor pool, (indoor pool closed...oh sorry) we were waving at 2 waiters who waived back but ran away. We then had to wait another 20 minutes before getting another waiter....oh sorry.
3- at the pool, ordered a hawaian pizza, and got a pekin pizza. when we mentioned the mistake they didn't seem to see what the problem was...oh sorry
4- while my baby son was having a nap in the room we heard a strong noise: water was leaking everywhere in the bedroom. quickly i called the front desk and hopefully they sent someone to check the plumbing and changed us room...oh sorry...
5- while checking out, we looked closely at the bill and there were a few additions...took us 45 minutes to check out and correct mistakes...oh sorry...
we have another 5-6 stories like this in 2 days. this is a very nice hotel with a beautiful outdoor pool and rooms are spacious and elegant. the hotel has just been opened for a few months and there is definitly lots of room for improvement in service. I would recommend visitors to speak chinese or face many (oh sorry)...
P.S: after 3 days the pool was starting to turn green as nobody cleaned it during our stay...
