We stayed in a king mini-suite for 8 nights. This is a big conference center hotel with all the usual amenities. It is connected to the convention center which is very convenient. Our 9th floor corner room was very comfortable and had lots of windows but we had to ask for a dorm-size refrigerator and there was no microwave. Understandably the hotel wants guests to have to use their restaurant services but it was strange to pay the price and not get it all. Housekeeping service was efficient and customer-service prepared. I had some problems trying to leave a document for another guest...left it at the front desk for the guest to pick up. It got lost for two days......have no idea what happened. The coffee shop is small but adequate, there is a 2 washer 2 dryer guest laundry, the fitness center is very nice and the 3rd floor outdoor pool is also nice although it gets no deeper than 3 1/2 feet...strange. The main restaurant is excellent but VERY expensive. Dinner for 2 with wine and tip ran $160 and breakfast for 3 with tip was about $50.

This is a decent, but fairly sterile hotel. The rooms are up to par with good beds and decent furnishings. The bath rooms have been "granitized, but the tubs are small (5ft) so it doesn't really feel luxurious. Room service has a limited selection, but it is decent and quick (and the staff is quick to point out that the 20% "delivery charge" was not "gratuity.")
The big disappointment was the slow check-in and limited service offered by staff to the guest. I was in a line of five guests waiting to check in through one desk staffer. Two other desk men stood just back from the desk engaged in conversation. This was typical whenever I went to the desk with a problem of question. They seemed to enjoy making guests wait. The hotel was not busy at the time either, being between conventions.
There was very little information in the room about hotel services, which was disappointing. No pens or paper to write with either. Very limited amenities (conditioner, soap and shampoo were about it.) No-one at the desk offered any information.
Staff going through the hallways were often very loud--you could hear them in the rooms.
There was a "Guest Services" desk but it was not manned during my stay for even an instant. I stood in front of it several times and was just ignored by passing staff.
The restaurant (there is only one) looked okay, but uninteresting. The hotel entrance is bady designed and crowded. When you leave you have to walk among the cars coming into the hotel in order to reach the street. Good thing they are all jammed up so none of them can be moving very fast.
This could be a nice hotel if staff cared a bit more about the guests. Instead you get the feeling that everyone is just going through the motions.
The location is next to (attached to) the convention center, so if you are attending a convention there , it is probably an okay choice (better than the scruffy Hilton on the other side of the center). Otherwise I would stay at the Fairmont or the historic hotel just across the street were I to go back to San Jose.

Relatively New Hotel Already Tired
Guest name: MikeNCal, San Jose, CA
This should be a great hotel, but is already looking tired. $18 bucks for a full buffet breakfast - did not even have pancakes for the buffet and only three types of sliced fruit. Had much better at hotels where breakfast is included in the price. Coffee shop at hotel needs a lot of love - almost nothing in display cases and just a very poorly set up place. Would not take much be a great facility. I would pass on this hotel.
Good hotel for business travellers

I booked Marriott San Jose for a business meeting and company Christmas party.
It honors what I am used to have from Marriott: good service, comfortable, spacious, clean and well equipped rooms and friendly staff.
The location is very convenient to access a number of Silicon Valley companies.
I have to disagree with some reviews. It is indeed not a bargain, but it is not bad for the quality and location.
