My wife and I stayed at this property June 21st - June 28th. The primary advantage is its location and the price ($169.00 per night). It is a $10.00 cab ride (one way) to Balboa Park, it is located 4 blocks from Horton Plaza and the nearest city bus line, and it is across the street from the city trolley system. This was my second stay at this property, and I was able to reserve a bay-view room. Of the 25 stoey building, I was on the 21st floor, and my wife felt that the views were the best part of the trip. I spent two days ay Balboa Park. I purchased the Balboa Passport, and I was able to visit all of the museums that are of interest to me. My wife and I took the city bus (route 901) to Coronado (25 minutes each way). I suggest seeing the Hotel Del (Coronoado) and strolling on the beach, but there is very little else of interest on the island. We also took a city bus (route 30) to La Jolla (45 minutes to an hour each way). We spent the day there, but wished we had rented a car to go further inland. We also took the city trolley to La Mesa, for antiques shopping. We considered the Zoo, but the weather was unseasonably hot. I would stay at this property again, and would recommend it.

Stayed 4 nights in the hotel for a convention. While the property is nice, the room itself is nothing special. The hotel is expensive and it irritates me that most $75 a night hotels can provide free internet access but a $300 per night hotel charges $10 per day. And the valet parking is $30 per day. If you like trains you will LOVE this property. I have never stayed in a louder hotel and I stay about 100 nights per year in them. I was in the North Tower with a balcony looking out over the city and part of the marina. Each night from about 11:00pm to 4:00am large freight trains would make their way through the city. They go about 3 MPH and, due to the large number of crossings, constantly blow their horn. And one night they decided to switch cars and it sounded like an earthquake each time the couplers hit. I used to live close to a railroad track but I have never experienced louder trains. It may be because the sound echos off of downtown buildings. With all of the screwy laws California has I am surprised they do not have some type of noise ordinance restricting the trains to certain hours. Unfortunately many hotels I assume have the same problem since Harbor Avenue is one of the primary streets. The pool area is nice and service was good. The hotel is convenient to hundreds of restaurants, clubs, Petco Park, and almost anything you need. But I would rather it be less convenient and be able to catch a few hours sleep.

Stayed for 5 days at the Marriott Marina last week. Room on the 16th floor, Marina side. Never heard the train once (so book a Marina room!) Beautiful view of the marina, harbor and Coronado Island from the balcony in our room. Maid service was great every day, never had to wait or had any issues. Room was very nice (albeit a bit small) and bed was quite comfortable. Why no free internet tho??? Hotel itself is in a great location. Walking distance to Gaslamp and easy access to the harborfront walking/biking path. We used valet parking on the first day ($30.00/day), but switched to Self Park after that ($20.00/day) with no issues. Easy in and out from the self park lot and found no problems with driving around town. For those taking cabs, it's really simple to get one at the front entrance. They wait on the street and the bellmen wave them up as needed. My only issue is a minor one. There was a 5k that held starting at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning!!! Right on the waterfront and right next to the hotel. Between the music and the people using the microphone to pump up the runners, it was incredibly annoying. I'm all for a nice run, but at 6:30 am on a Saturday morning with an entire hotel full of sleeping guests not 50 feet away???? Not sure who planned the logistics of that one. Other than that, we had a great stay and would recommend the hotel to any travelers.

we just came back from the SD Marriott Marina after spending the night on July 4th to catch the fireworks at the bay. This marriott is less than 500 feet away from the Sea Port village. This makes it an excellent location to catch the fireworks. The hotel lobby is nicely done, and doesn't show its age. Although this hotel was renovated in 2004, the rooms are well below average for a marriott. I don't think it is that clean. The carpet is very old. The TV is from the 1990s. The bathroom appears to be outdated also. I won't stay there again if I can help it.

Stayed here for two nights in June to see a Padres game. Fairly typical large, convention-type hotel, but with great location downtown, As mentioned in other reviews, while the location is great, the noise from the trains can be annoying. Based on the prior recommendations, we requested a bay-facing room. However we still heard the trains, though I'm sure it was even louder on the city side of the hotel (we were on the 17th floor). One other note - we were in the south tower with no balcony (great view though). I noticed that rooms in the north tower all appeared to have balconies if that matters to anyone. We avoided the hotel restaurant breakfast and went to a local pancake house a few blocks away which was fine. Overall, the great location near Petco Park, Gaslight District and the Seaport area more than made up for any shortcomings from the noise. I would stay here again if in town.
