I Can't Believe That Was a Marriott

The hotel is an older two-story building reminiscent of a 1970's-era hotel. The staff was friendly and the beds were comfortable but the experience wasn't what I expected for a Marriott. The rooms are dingy. My room's window was three feet from a car bumper and the walls were very thin. I could follow the conversations of my neighbors and I don't even have very good hearing nor did I want to listen to their conversations. And, it was easy to hear (and feel) the steps of the people above my room. The bathroom was tiny and the ceiling in the bathroom area must was well under seven feet, giving a very cramped feeling. I see other people rated their experience at this hotel much better and I am left wondering if we were rating the same Marriott in Fort Wayne, IN.

My husband and I brought our 3 boys, ages 7, 3, and 10mos., to escape from home and use the pool. Check-in was a breeze. We had requested a room in a quiet section of the hotel and we were put on the concierge floor (6th) away from everything, which was nice. We also requested a crib and a fridge, which were brought very promptly as soon as we got to the room. Our room seemed very new. The new bedding was great with lots of pillows!! Too bad I couldn't sleep in it. My son would not sleep in the pack-n-play, so I had to walk around with him all night! There are no microwaves, except for at the hotel restaurant. I called the front desk and they were very happy to pop a bag of popcorn for me. My boys loved the large modern television. I was worried that the baby would not be able to swim because most hotel pools are too cold, but this was like bath water, perfect for my little guy! We booked the breakfast buffet rate ($19) for 4. The Red River Steakhouse had made to order omelets, sausage, bacon, waffles, french toast, eggs, ect... very good!
Overall, we had a nice little getaway! I would return for another weekend away from home.

I just finished a 5 night stay at the Fort Wayne Mariott. This is the hotel that my company uses for business. The rooms were very comfortable. The signature bedding that all Mariott's provide is wonderful: down mattress topper, down comfortor, lots of great pillows, etc. In fact, the bed is the best part of the room. My room also had a flat panel HD TV. The hotel was undergoing some renovations, and my room had just been updated. I would have liked to have had a more comfortable chair (only a straightback chair and a desk chair was provided) for watching TV, etc.
Housekeeping did a good job everyday. Everything was really clean and well kept.
I only ate breakfast in the resteraunt once during my stay, and it was typical buffett fare. I didn't step foot in the lobby other than to check in and check out, so I don't really have anything to add about the service there.
The only problem I had was parking. This is a popular place for meetings/receptions/etc. It was difficult to find a parking spot in the evenings after work that was even remotely close to the entrance closest to my room.
There was nothing wrong with any part of my stay, but other than the bed and TV, there wasn't anything to distinguish this hotel from any other Hilton, Hyatt, etc.

This is a nice hotel. Showing it's age a little. Rooms are comfortable. Restaurant (Red River Steak House) is very good. The bar is usually hopping. Forget the pool and hot tub if you don't appreciate screaming kids. Local people use this hotel for their kids pool parties. They just basically camp out in the pool area with drinks and snacks and never leave.

I have stayed at the Fort Wayne Marriot twice now and both experiences have been very good. The beds are comfortable, the food is very tasty (love the breakfast order form you hang outside the door!), and the price cannot be beat. It was easy to navigate to various destinations from the hotel and the staff were helpful in this regard. Other perks included Bath and Body Works toiletries and a nice big desk. The only annoyance we had was a wedding taking place in the "Dome" beneath our window that was so loud you could hear every word of every song. (Footloose, anyone?) I called the front desk just to ask how long it would go on and they assured me it would be over at midnight, which it was. In the end I thought it was a small price to pay for a lovely hotel room at $80 a night, especially considering my first stay at the hotel had been for just such a wedding.
