THis Hotel is one of the biggest and best I have ever stayed in! It is right Downtown and close to the Red Wings Stadium. It has like 3 Starbuck's, a Food Court.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and might be good for business travelers who have a conference at the hotel, cobo center, other work close by or if you were going to a Red Wings game but vacationing from here is extremely inconvenient. I get the feeling that downtown Detroit is improving but it still has a creepy deserted vibe at night and there are very few restaurants and shops near the hotel. They also try to kill you with pricey add-ons like $13 a day for internet and $20 a day for parking even though there are tons of empty parking lots and garages nearby. The hotel is also HORRIBLY laid out. You need to take two different elevators to come and go from your room and it is extremely confusing with all kinds of elevators, ramps and escalators everywhere. The desk service was decent and room was nice. Some people have complained about other staff like valets but I didn't use those services. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and purchased one thing in the hotel shop. Only because they were the only places open on Sunday! They were overpriced and the food at the restaurant was on the borderline between fair and good.

If you're in Detroit for a conference at Cobo, the Ren Cen is not a bad place to stay. It's a short, beautiful walk if you take the path along the Detroit River.
I'd recommend using the valet parking upon arrival for security and convenience. The staff of the hotel is professional and helpful at any hour of the day.
The hotel's layout is a bit of a challenge and often very confusing with all the levels, the circular paths, and confusing signs. You'll likely need directions to find the river and/or the People Mover Station.
The room that I had was clean and comfortable, nothing unusual although it did have a nice view of the river and of Windsor, Canada. The bathroom was a bit small.
One bit of advice: I'd ask for a room just above floor 40 up to about 50. There are two sets of elevators - the low rooms and the high rooms. The break between the two is around 40. If you're in a room on floor 38, it will likely take a lot longer to get up and down than it would if you were on 43.

I used the opinions of travlers from Trip Advisor to stay at this downtown Detroit Marriott location. Good points- Great views- clean rooms- room service food quite good. Bad points- Horrible customer service from the valet attendants who were quite questionable in their appearance and demeanor... reminded me of recent parolees to most of the front desk staff. Most of the staff was very unfriendly. We came to attend an air show at the hotel and everything was chaotic as though they were
not accustomed to the amount of guest at the hotel. It was an awful experience and I'll never stay at this hotel again. When I first booked this trip; this hotel was ranked number one and now
it's number 4 and I hope in time it'll rank even lower as this hotel
definitely seems like it's ran more like a Motel 6 than a Marriott.
