I stayed at the Marriott Atlanta Downtown for an educational program conducted in the hotel. The service was exceptional. I didn't have one complaint about any single staff member over my entire 3 day stay. After check-in, I asked to move my room because of construction going on outside my window and I wanted a balcony and I was immediately accommodated. Afterwards, I received a follow-up call to ensure my new room was to my satisfaction. This type of follow-up occurred after nearly all of my calls to the front desk. In addition, ALL of the staff was very friendly and courteous and appeared very willing to provide anything I needed. They have a complementary concierge room on the 8th floor that has a good variety. I was exceptionally surprised and pleased that all of the hot tea offerings were accompanied with honey and lemon (not common in Milwaukee, WI). There was also free lemonade in the lobby every day and a small (very small) business center to use the internet and print (also complimentary).
The hotel didn't score a 5 because they only had 4 outlets in our entire meeting room which could accommodate 40-50 people (very disturbing for a business trip). Eighty percent of us had laptops which we were told to bring to use in the course - need I say more. In addition, both the wireless and wired internet access had a daily cost which no of the attendees were aware of. We did find 2 random spots where you could access free wireless through another facility. I was able to get my wired service at no cost. So, if you plan to stay at the hotel for business, come prepared.
Also, the halls were a big humid - which I understand is common in Atlanta.
I would stay here again and recommend it for couples, friends or even a small family stay.

I'm surprised to see the unhappy reviews because I've stayed at this Marriott twice now in 2008 for meetings nearby. I thought the service was very good both times, and on my 2nd visit, I was upgraded to a very nice room on the concierge floor.
I had room service my first night and lunch in the restaurant on the 2nd, and I thought the meal was very good in both instances.

The hotel was fine, we had a good stay, until we discovered that someone stole my fiancee's ipod and digital camera from our room. The staff had her fill out some forms, but to date we still haven't heard from them.
Hopefully we'll hear something eventually, but they've given us no clear idea of what the process or timeline is to being compensated for this or whether they were putting any effort into finding the person responsible and ensuring that future guests aren't victims of the same crime.
Most unsettling was that her camera wasn't out in the open, it was deep in the bottom of her handbag behind our luggage.

Horrible Hotel Experience

This was not only the most horrible Marriot experience but also by far the worse hotel experience I've ever had! The hotel is in need of renovation since dirty carpeting and a horrible odor in the hall and rooms are first impressions. Only one out of three elevators worked causing long lines and irate customers. As a Marriott member, I was upgraded to a suite however my toilet overflowed three times (with maintenance calls for each incident) before getting repaired. Major repairs were being completed one night with open buckets of acetone with fumes and no ventilation in the lobby causing a very unhealthy and unpleasant night. Without getting into further detail, additional negative circumstances occurred resulting in a very terrible stay. There are many other choices in the area, this traveler recommends seeking out alternative choices.

We stayed for four nights at the Marriott downtown while my hubby attended at huge conference at the GWCC. The place was completely booked, but you couldnt tell it by the service. We used the pool several times. The only thing missing is a hot tub. We did not eat at any of their restaurants or have room service, so I dont know anything about those. The rooms were super clean, well decorated, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Every employee we encountered was great. Every time we came off the elevator, the desk attendant greeted us and asked if we needed anything. Internet access was extra, though. Which I thought was a little crappy for a business hotel. They had ice cream and punch set up two nights in the lobby. The valet guys were so nice, as well as the man who brought our luggage up. We would def. stay here again if needed to be downtown. I did not feel comfortable walking to and from this hotel, but that has nothing to do with Marriott, it has everything to do with aggressive panhandlers in downtown. We encountered it everywhere in downtown that we went, not just around our hotel.
