Great hotel at a great price, great location as well

I thought this hotel was perfect.. Stayed here 3 nights in July.. I'm loyal to Marriott so I diden't even look at other hotels in Athens just booked this one.... I used points for the stay but the room rate for a standard in July was only around 150 EU I believe. Here's what we got... Our room had a nice sized balcony on the 4th floor overlooking a busy street (but noise was not an issue, there are 2 sliding glass doors in the rooms). from the right the Acropolis, and to the left the water in the distance.
For those who say it's not near much, well it's not... BUT it's a very short walk down a main safe road (actually it seems all roads in greece are safe, the people are great)... about 10 minutes down 1 road to the FIX metro station, and about 10 min more gets you to the base of the acropolis. If your lazy and don't want the exercise, there is a free shuttle that takes you too and from the heart of town, leaving on the hour.
The area near the hotel is predominately residential and car dealerships it seems.. There are 1 or 2 restaurants nearby the hotel within a stones through... There's also a small grocery a about 300M away thats has anything you'd want..
Would I come back here, YES in a heartbeat.
Only negative, Internet runs 20 EU for 24 hrs.. not cheap...
Great service, great room though a bit out of the way

I thought the Marriott was great! The room was large as was the bathrooms. The airconditioning was fully functioning which is always a good thing in Athens in July. The pool was large and had plenty of chairs not to mention the fabulous view of the Acropolis. The enitre staff was helpful and friendly. The only downside is that it is not downtown or near a metro station. The hotel shuttle is very effecient to get you downtown though the hours of operation are a bit limited. When I was there, the hotel was filled with mostly American tourists and I was told by the bellman that it is one of the hotels that the cruise lines use to put people up in Athens before or after the cruise leaves for the islands. If you are looking for a hotel that will give you more of the 'flavor' of the culture, this is not it.

We stayed one night at the Marriott after completing a 12-night cruise. The taxi from Pireaus was 14 Euros. Make sure you settle on a price before you leave. Most quoted 25 Euros, expecting stupid and tired cruise ship passengers exiting the ship. The ride was 15-20 minutes.
We arrived at the Marriott around 9am and was very happy to get our room upon check-in. Perhaps being a member of the Marriott Rewards programs helped, but still - Big kudos to the Athens Marriott.
The room was very nice and had all the goodies in the bathroom. Our view was interior looking out towards other coutyard rooms.
I checked out the gym/spa in the baseroom floor and was satisified with it. No big deal, but okay. Probably better than most US properties, but not the Grand Brantiage-Athens.
The rooftop pool was FANTASTIC ! The view is great, the pool is good and the drinks are expensive. Never had a chance to try out the on-site dining options but they appear to be very nice and very expensive. The check-in/check-out staff were very good, the bellman was helpful with what to pay for taxis. He arranged for an early morning taxi to the airport for 25 Euros which was much cheaper than the 40 Euros previously quoted. The hotel also offers a comp mini-bus shuttle service to the tourist area. The ONLY minus that I would give this hotel is the location. It's on a busy street and not within walking distance of the Plaka/Acropolis area. Otherwise, the hotel is very good!

I never write about or go to a pool when I am traveling abroad. This pool is awesome. After you come home from a day of traveling around greece go up to the pool drink a Methos and look at the Parthenon till it is time to retire to a very comfortable room. As far as the beauty of the hotel it is not the most superior Marriott I have ever vistied but the pool and comfortable rooms are great. I can't speak to how good the food is at the hotel, I still can't figure out why people eat at the hotel when they travel abroad. IF you are on business, fine I understand and sorry I can't help you with that. There are many good restaraunts in walking distance. I can't speak to the bus or taxis because when I was there they were all on STRIKE!!!! But I still didn't have trouble finding someone to take me around. Be patient, the locals are very nice and will bend over backwards to help. Make sure to drink some Ouzo!!!!
