I stayed just one night at this Marriott while on a quick business trip through Europe. I found it dependable and comfortable, with a nice concierge lounge (I have Elite status with the chain). The rate was a bit high, however, and the location a bit far from the train station and the Kalverstraat shopping district. Front desk service was professional though not very warm.

Excellent location, easily accesible by tram from central station. Right in the centre near the Leidse Square. Plenty of terraces bars and restaurants around. Hotel room in very good condition and have to say that the beds are really comfortable. Also the staff very friendly and corteous. Will return when travelling to Amsterdam.

Stayed here from 9th thru 11th May. As always excellent service and I love the Marriott beds - hard to get out of in the morning.
Great location
Great service
Great if you are like me and want comfort and no one bothering you during the stay. Maybe not so great if you like old world architecture and local feel from a small hotel.
Amsterdam is a fabulous city. Friendly people, fantastic buildings, clean as a whistle (except the canal but hey - its in a city so...). I loved strolling along the canals with my wife and stopping for coffee here and there watching the world go by. She loved the shopping and relaxation. Weather was fantastic whic halso helps.
If you are looking to get there from Schipol get the train to the Central station (?3.60 from the airport per person) and get the number 2 tram outside the station door. (The central station is the terminus so the 2 only goes towards the Marriott at that point). Pay ?1.60 per person to the driver and it will pass up through the town centre, past the flower market on the left (beside a canal) and keep an eye out on your right immeditately past a big busy square (you will have been on the tram about 5 minutes and you will be taking a sharp left turn at this point) for the Marriott in big red letters on the hotel across the road. Get out at the next stop and it is 5 minutes walk or less back. we got ripped of with a taxi who brought us round the city from the station for 20 minutes. Not a pleasant start but if you are a reasonably seasoned traveller the tram is easy and efficient.

I stayed two nights at the Amsterdam Marriott in late May and early June. On balance, I was pleased with the hotel and agree with the mostly positive reviews other travelers have offered here. The location is pretty good, especially for the Rijksmuseum (a 5 minute walk) and the Van Gogh museum (a 10 minute walk). The Anne Frank house is about 15 minutes away, and the Red Light District is a little farther, probably around 25 minutes or so.
The hotel offers free coffee in the lobby in the morning, which is kind of a nice touch before heading out to start your day.
I would add a few additional observations: First, if you're looking for places to eat, the Leidesplein is literally a three minute walk out of the hotel, and it's a place replete with cafes and outdoor seating sure to make you feel like you are having an authentic Amsterdam experience.
If you're looking for a quiet table at a canalside cafe, I would also recommend the Jordaan neighborhood. It's in the direction of the Anne Frank house, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It's much less crowded than the Leidesplen, and there are a fair number of outdoor table that directly overlook a canal, which is probably the most visible characteristic of Amsterdam.
Getting from Central Station to the hotel can be done fairly cheaply on the tram, but if you've got luggage that's at all bulky, I might suggest spending the 20 Euros for a cab.

I stayed 10 days at the Marriot near Leidsplein, and it was a memorable experience. The hotel is great, the staff very helpful and the location is just amazing. Nearby you can find Vondelpark, Rijksmuseum and also walk to nice shops! Highly recommended!
