We booked our trip back in February so I have had the chance to read all the reviews good and bad.
We had a wonderful experience with Las Brisas, but we are people who like to go into a resort and set up house. We took just one tour leaving the hotel for an afternoon except our first trip to Wal-Mart. We always took cabs and felt safe to avoid getting pulled over by the police.
We had a junior suite on the top of the resort 466 which looked at Acapulco Bay. The night view is stunning by the way. Our space was very private which my husband and I kept making comments on how quite it was every day. We laid around our pool and order pitchers of Pina Coladas which they delivered and served us while on our floats. Then a couple of days we went to the beach club which doesn't have a sandy beach, but you are still by the water and have the same experience. You can snorkel in the sea pool which is about 10-15 feet deep - there are an array fish plus I saw a small squid one day which was cool. You can swim out to the main ocean if the tide is not too strong.
I have stayed at many nice hotels around the world and found this to be one of my favorites. If you like brand new hotels with marble contemporary looks like the W's you might not be happy. If you have creative imagination and have an interest in history this hotel has this type of charm. From the original owners story to Hollywood which have stayed in the past. It is also located in the most exclusive area of Acapulco near very nice homes.
The staff was very friendly who I found most have worked there for many years. They are also setting up a wireless internet at the resort which should be available soon.
We plan to return.

For serenity, romance, and relaxation...LAS BRISAS is a must.

It has been 20 years since my honeymoon at Las Brisas, and it is nice to see that some things remain the same. By this I mean, stunning environment, fabulous staff, and total tranquility. This is the place for relaxation and serenity. How nice is it to not have to rush down to the pool at 7AM to find a good lounge chair? Instead you can pretend you own your own villa complete with plunge pool and butler service...well after ordering room service of course. To the few naysayers who complain about the perceived lack of privacy on your pool decks...You've got to be kidding...what kind of privacy exists at the more traditional hotel pools? If complete and total privacy is what you need, splurge for at least the Beach Club level or the Jr Suites at the El Fuerte (fort). Most will have complete privacy. I have found that the upgrade in category can be attributed mostly to the level of seclusion. Some will also have a larger deck and an outdoor day bed. That said, the entire resort has spectacular views and the vibe is laid back cool. Room service was quick and reasonably priced; the food very good. Try the Octopus tostadas at the unique and relaxing beach club under your own cabana tent. No beach, but you can snorkel in one of two natural open sea pools as well as swim in a traditional fresh water pool while gazing across the bay to the heart of Acapulco. For serenity, romance, and relaxation...LAS BRISAS is a must.
