The usual 5 star chains I wld normally use are not in Tallinn so I decided - very fortunately- to check out the boutique 5 star hotels present. This one was a great find. If you are going to Tallinn- you really should stay in the old town itself to get the atmosphere of this delightful place. This hotel has a fabulous location- within 5 minutes' walk of the main square and 2 minutes from the first churches, museums, bars and restaurants to explore.
The hotel itself is like going back in time- an old merchant's building- the reception and rooms on the ground floor have beams, a fireplace and oodles of character. Downstairs you have an incredibly atmospheric and yet comfortable restaurant. I had breakfast down there and got room service from there- London prices I have to say but the food was excellent- creative, colourful and yummy!!! I would definitely recommend it.
Ok- so the bedrooms are a little tired but they are again with a lot of character and comfortable and with Molton Brown goodies thrown in!
Last but certainly not least- the staff. The friendliest and most helpful bunch of people I have come across... (and I travel virtually every week...)! Kirill in guest relations is a total star, as are all the delightful reception staff. First class service and great hotel.

The hotel is ok, but avoid the restaurant at all costs!
I and two friends had read great things about the restaurant but have never been so disappointed with a meal in my life.
Our starters were served cold, we all had to send our main courses back because the meat was so poor quality and was raw when we had ordered it medium. The replacement meals were cooked better but the meat was still terrible quality.
When we told the waiter about our concerns he simply shrugged.
All this, and they are charging Michelin-starred restaurant London prices.
It was seriously one of the worst meals I have ever had in my life.
I wrote to the hotel immediately about my experience and am still waiting on a response!
There are some great restaurants in Tallin…this is not one of them.
If you can, stay at the Telegraf instead.

Perhaps the Schlössle Hotel should be kept as an excellent secret; it's an oasis among a large number of unpersonal and undfriendly tourist- and businessmachines.
I have stayed at the Schlössle Hotel a few times, and have always had a pleasant stay. Perfect service, nice rooms (however, a bit to warm at my last visit) and quiet. Definately the best hotel in town.
Classy and cozy

The Schlossle is a very comfortable and cozy hotel, well placed for the old town sights and good value for money. It may not have the facilities of more modern hotels, but if you're looking for somewhere that is relaxed and welcoming, this fits the bill nicely.
We ordered a hotel transfer after reading that taxis could be a bit hit and miss, and were happy to pay the 16 euros to know that we didn't have any hassle on arrival. However, having seen others get to the hotel by taxi without any problem, I'd say that you can save 11 euros by taking a taxi.
Check in was efficient, with a welcoming glass of juice. All staff speak excellent English, and are very attentive without being in your face. For example, take a seat by the open fire in reception and someone will immediately come to make sure there are enough logs on it.
Our room was up a circular flight of stone stairs which wasn't the easiest to navigate, so ask for a ground floor room if you have weak knees.
The only slight negative for me is that we found the restaurant a little pretentious - high prices and an attempt at haute cuisine which seemed somewhat out of place. Accordingly, we didn't eat there, preferring instead to sample the abundance of good quality restaurants in the old town. If you like Italian food, take a tip and find Controvento in Katariina kaik (St Katherine's passage, off Vene), conveniently a stone's throw from the hotel.
