The Donbass Palace is a luxurious 5 star hotel located in the heart of the city of Donetsk, on Artyoma Street and is ideally situated for easy access to the Theatre, the Opera House, as well as the main shopping and commercial areas.
The Donbass Palace is considered to be part of the architectural heritage of the Donbass region and was originally built in 1938. The architects N. Rechanik and A. Shuvalova designed the original building whilst N. Porhunov revised the proposed project and added the final details. During World War Two the hotel was partly destroyed and was reconstructed between the period 1947-1949. However, due to lack of funds, the original architectural grandeur was not maintained.
In 1971 the Institute of Donbass Civil Engineering projects carried out some restoration works and during the period from 1996 to 1999 - it's restaurant was closed and a few of the hotel rooms were rented out as offices to local businesses.1362 years later the management of the Football Club 'Shakhtyor' recommended the demolition of the existing building and the reconstruction of the entire hotel to its original features, including the previously eliminated cupola, restoring to Donetsk its cultural heritage and providing the city with its first five star hotel - A benchmark and a jewel of Ukraine.
The Palace is 52 meters in length, 44 meters in width and 34 meters in height and spreads over 5 stories and a basement level.

Die Ausstattung des Hotel ist excellent und vorallem das Hotel ist wie neu, da vermutlich wie bei meinem Aufenthalt sehr wenige Gäste im Hotel sind, sind weder Zimmer noch der rest des Hotels abgenutzt. Der Pool ist zwar im Keller jedoch eine sehr schöne Anlage nicht gerade gross, es gibt jedoch Säfte kosten frei zu trinken. Und Hotelgäste haben freien zutritt. Das was oben geschrieben wurde ist flasch. Das einzig Problem das das Hotel hat sind die Restaurants. In der Lobbybar gibt es am Nachmittag Süssigkeiten. Nur herauszufinden wie das läuft ist relativ schwer,da nur die Damen vom Empfang gut English sprechen. Die Süssigkeiten sind gut. Bei den Sandwiches wird es dann schon düster. Das etwas gummige Brot wurde mit viel Salatblättern, Zwiebeln und Lachs gefüllt (das geht ja noch), dann wurde jedoch soviel Dillsauce reingeschmiert, dass sich das Brot mit dieser Sauce zu einem schwammigen etwas, das ich nicht mehr als Sandwich bezeichnen würde verwandelte. (Mein Lachstartar war fade und das Zitronenbett übertönte alles, das Rindsfile war etwas gar fest durch gebraten und die Rotweinsauce (zu) süss. Industrie Pommes gehören auch nicht in ein Hotel dieser Klasse. Das Servicepersonal gibt sich viel Mühe, es hat jedoch leider von Business nicht viel Ahnung. Es wird zwar gleichzeitig Serviert jedoch nicht gleichzeitig abgeräumt und wenn eine Person schnell fertig ist bekommt diese auch den nächsten Gang schon verpasst. Es wurden mir auch mal die Bestecke falsch herum gelegt, usw. Die interne Ausbildung des Personals im Hotel ist hier gefragt. Das Preisleistungverhältnis im Restaurant ist nicht schlecht (für west Europäer). Das essen kostet soviel wie in einer Dorf Beiz und hat auch etwa diesen Standard. Es ist ok aber nichts spezielles (einen kullinartischen Höhenflug gibt es nicht). Vermutlich haben das auch schon die Einheimischen herausgefunden und gehen wo anders essen, denn das Restaurant war leer. Ich werde sicher wieder einmal dort einkehren, jedoch ein anderes Restaurant suchen.

Without doubt this is the nicest place to stay in the area. It has a central location, beautiful building, and friendly staff. However, the downfall is the price. Average rate for 1 night is $300+. I lived in Donetsk for almost 4 months, and if you can speak Russian or can find someone to help you out you can rent an entire local apartment for less than the cost of staying here for even 1 night! That said, if you are in the are on business and company is footing the bill it is the best place hands down in the area. Also of note, most local restaurants in the area DO offer menu's in English and they are priced reasonably to low by American standards. (Dinner for two people at a restaurant for barely $10 American is very easy to do.) You can also go to the supermarket (just tell any taxi driver you wan to go to the "Am Store" and they know where you want.) Prices are very low by American standards ($20 for same amount of food that would cost $100 in US.)

This certainly one of the best hotels I have stayed at anywhere in the world. Very comfortable room with ornate and luxuriosu furnishings. Attentive staff. Great breakfast. Not cheap though!

Auch wenn das Hotel sehr schön war, so war es nicht den Preis wert. Die Angestellten sind sehr freundlich und die meisten sprechen Englisch. Die Restaurants sind überteuert und das Essen ist mittelmäßig. Es gibt wesentlich bessere Restaurants in der Umgebung. Im Hotel selbst kann man wenig unternehmen. Alles wird extra berechnet, wie z.B. das Fitnesscenter. Alles in allem war ich etwas enttäuscht.

I have been living and workign on Ukraine for 7 months, and this is the ONLY place in Ukraine where the service and facilities meet any international criteria and standard. During my many visits I have spent over 30 nights in total at this hotel. English is not spoken by everyone in the housekeeping, but reception is very helpful. General Manager is German, very professional, the management knows what they do, and in addition it is a happening place -Boney M had a concert here a few days ago! I strongly recommend. Much much better than any other hotel in Ukraine.
