Rustic Meets Sophisticated Zen

This place is just phenomenal. From the the rustic luxury of the all suite accommodations to the friendly and helpful staff, it was all pleasure from beginning to end. Now, granted, it was a sort of buffer between a week of camping (which included black flies the likes of which even the locals hadn't seen before and a second degree burn) and the real world, so I may be biased. But the massage at the spa, the in-suite dinner, the turn down service, the breakfast. . . the delights to the senses never stopped.
Expensive, yes. But in our opinion, very worth the price paid.

This is a very impressive resort. And while we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay , there were 2 big compliants: (1) there is no real table sitting area for the "free" breakfeast buffett (they will not let you sit in main restaurant (which was basically empty) unless you order something a la carte) ... why they would bother with this is beyond me ??? and (2) they charged an apparently disclosed $18 per person per day "activity fee" (which adds up for a party of 4 over 3 nights) ---- and in addition they surprise you with a $50 per day per child fee at the end of your stay ... nice touch !!!

Our family enjoyed each and every activity. Kids couldn't get enough of the gameroom. We all had a hard time leaving the gorgeous property. Pure heaven if you enjoy nature. The staff was courteous, all very helpful and friendly!

My fianc?e and I stayed at the Whiteface for 4 nights over Christmas. Overall we thought that the place was fantastic and catered to just about every kind of traveler. Although we wanted to stay somewhere rustic and romantic there were also a number of families at the lodge, and there are plenty of amenities to cater to children (such as the ice rink, theatre, bowling, games room). However, the fact that there were a number of families did not spoil what was still a very romantic getaway, and the hotel only has a small number of rooms anyway so still retains an intimate feel. The suite that we had was beautiful, with a full modern kitchen, lounge with fireplace, king-size bedroom and wood-paneled bathroom with a very large corner Jacuzzi tub. The hotel is decked out in authentic Adirondack furniture, however it is also clear that the property is modern, loaded with all sorts of mod cons.
We ate at the Steak and Stinger one night and the food was good, if a little expensive, but I guess the location and the dining room with its huge ceilings and stone fireplaces make up for that.
The location of the hotel is great. It is about a 5-10min drive to Lake Placid town and about 15-20mins to Whiteface mountain ski area. There is a large wooded area directly behind the hotel which went snowshoeing through, and the scenery was just awesome while we were there (there was about 2 feet of soft powdery snow).
The hotel has a number of facilities, including those listed above, there is also a modern fitness room, a (small) indoor pool and an outdoor hot tub which was fantastic to sit in and relax after a day of skiing.
Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious getaway.

I consider myself a picky traveler and this place was top notch with very few downsides.
I took my wife here for a surprise Valentine's Day and she loved every second of it. We are very picky about everything from beds to food to property amenities and this place was great.
Pro's:
1.Great A+++ room - comfy bed - 2 TV's in our suite, full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, heated bathroom floors, fireplace, plenty of space.
2.Turn down service complete with free water and yummy cookies
3.Excellent amenitis from an indoor/outdoor pool open year round, to an ice skaing rink, to a bowling alley, to a full blwon movie theater, to shuttle service.
4.Excellent and friendly staff. You felt as if many people cared that you were there and did everything they could for you. Everyone was smiling. I had detailed conversations with many of them.
5.Free hot breakfast
6.Fireplaces all over the place and a very Adirondack feel, while also staying classy
7.Free and very good valet service - those guys were great and the best I have seen in a while
Cons:
1.Room service menu was not that great and very limited. Food we got was good, but the menu was a little limited.
2.After booking several weeks in advance and showing up when the hotel was almost empty on the day we arrived, I did nto get the room request I had, I was stuck with a room on the lower floor.
3.They close the pool and jacuzzi at 10 PM which in my mind is very early. Leave it open until midnight for adults to enjoy after dinner!
4. Spa was average. Kind of plain, loud, but we just went for massages. There are more things to do then spend the day in the spa here. We would not go back to the spa.
Overall, we would go back. Some kinks to work out, but then again, I find kinks everywhere. You look for them more when you are spending big bucks. Whether you are a family or a couple - this place will be sure to impress.
