I've stayed at both Shutters and Casa del Mar. I have to say that I like both properties, mainly for their location. ROOM The rooms I had a Casa del Mar was nearly identical right down to the shutter window above the tub. The tub, shower, bed, were all excellent. Big flat screen TV was nice as well. Work space was a bit limited, but I was on vacation. Bathroom amenities are really nice as well. FOOD Overpriced, but the views were great. I booked through AMEX and had a $50 credit for breakfast each morning. With $8 juice and $16 pancakes, $50 doesn't go very far, but all was very tasty and service was so-so. I was there over 4th of July weekend, so they were busy. POOL Get there early as chairs are very limited. Arrived around 11:00 am and was "out of luck". Small pool, but nice views. LOCATION Right on the boardwalk near the famous Santa Monica pier. If you like to jog, the boardwalk is great. Rented bikes one day and rode down to Venice which was a lot of fun. Overall, I'd recommend the Casa del Mar.

Great atmosphere, lovely room!!! EVERYTHINGS GREAT. I recived an upgradeto oceanview and was wonderfull, ROOM SERVICE PERFECT AND CLEAN SUPERB.

Just returned from a weekend at Casa Del Mar. We were in Santa Monica for a wedding that was hosted at the hotel. The rooms are perfection, down to the turtle soaps at jet tubs. The robes were so comfy; I wanted to take one home with me. The room service was excellent as was food! A fun bar/lounge area too. The only complaint was they should have had the bar better staffed as often they only had one bartender, which certainly was not enough. Just a lux place to stay!!! Highly recommend if you can part with the $$$$.
