Stayed here with our 2 kids, ages 5 & 7. Lovely rooms, good service, fantastic food and even bubbly at breakfast! Staff were helpful and friendly. Kids were given lots of easter goodies.
The spa was a slight dissappointment. We both had excellent massage treatments, but the pool was a little chilly, the spa area was a steam room, sauna and cold plunge bath-small and with limited changing areas, so go along in your robe. All said you can laze by the pool next to an open fire and gaze accross Munich's roof tops.........

The Bayerische Hof still has an excellent reputation. I, however, found the rooms to be too small, run down and stuffy. The SPA area has been re-done and is very nice, so is the breakfast room. But in general, the atmosphere is what would be called "spiessig" in German; for example, during breakfast I saw a waitress telling off a junior employee (which is inappropriate in the presence of guests). Compared to other, newer hotels in Munich, the value is not that good. Good location though and excellent restaurants nearby and in the basement.
If you belong to their long term customer base, you may love this place, but I think the quality is below "international business traveller standard". Given that there are better, newer and cheaper hotels in Munich, I would probably not recommend this place to a friend - this may change if the hotel undergoes a major makeover.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights in late Nov to early Dec. Overall, the hotel is much improved since my last stay a few years back in terms of friendliness, service and renovations. In the past I had found concierge, reception etc fairly unpleasant to deal with. This time they were smiling, friendly, fluent in English, efficient and very helpful. Last time I stayed in an unrenovated room that harked back to the mid-70s in terms of decor and had no a/c, and used a pool area that harked back to 1955. This time I encountered a dazzling, new, modern and beautifully-designed spa and rooftop spa bar. My room was one of the renovated ones and it was OK, with new sheets and a comfortable bed facing the courtyard, but one of two the sinks leaked water onto the the floor from the pipe under the basin so it was unusable and the bathroom smelled oddly and that was never fixed even though I stayed three days and housekeeping would have had a chance to notice the problem. The bathroom, by the way, did not seem to have been renovated. It wasn't a very pricey room (I paid EUR 311). Several friends visited me and all were surprised. One shrugged and said, "it's good enough," another said "very bavarian--- may I ask what you paid?" and a third said nothing. The food, then as now, was very good. One other thing was that when I arrived by taxi no one was available outside to help me with my bags and when I left and needed a taxi I had to wait a bit until someone was around. That is odd for a five star hotel. Overall, if you are going to use the spa and rooftop bar and want somewhere central and safe, stay here. Other good options in Munich are the Kempinski, Mandarin and the Charles.
