Fairly clean throughout hotel. It was a five minute walk to Riverwalk. It had an excellent breakfast buffet from 6:30 - 9:30. It also had a nice, but small pool area. I paid half price through Hotwire, so I felt like I received a great deal.

I booked a room at this hotel in April 08 for a conference starting later this month...June 2008. I called back two weeks ago and confirmed my registration AND added an additional night. I spoke directly with the property and they assured me everything was great. I actually booked the extra night for an early arrival and not during the actual conference time. Well...I received a letter earlier this week (keep in mind the conference is next week) telling me that my reservation has been cancelled but they are moving me to another LaQuinta in San Antonio. This hotel is 12 miles from the convention center. I contacted the company and was told to contact the manager. The manager at the LQCC told me that the hotel had overbooked (by 100 people) for the conference and they were sorry. To make things right, they were going to allow me to park my rental car, which I now must have, in the LQCC parking lot for a REDUCED charge! I've called the company and spoke with a representative. She told me that my recourse was to file a complain online with LaQuinta. I filed my complaint and received my reply today. The email response simply stated that my case was now "CLOSED". There was no narrative...no response....no apology...nothing. I called the company today to express my frustration with such poor customer service. The representative couldn't explain the email response that contained absolutely no response but that he would visit with his supervisor. Just to make things right....cancelling my reservation...moving me to another hotel....not attempting to help the situation at all.....the representative is going to send me a one night voucher for a great stay at any other LaQuinta in America. No thanks.
convenient to conference

great walking distance to convention center without paying the cost of the larger chain hotels. easy access to downtown mall and riverwalk. wi-fi was included. parking not included and was too expensive through hotel so parked around the corner for $6.

We don’t generally stay in LaQuinta Inns, but my husband had a business meeting at this inn last month and we are glad we stayed here. The advantages are the location, the price (which was lower than other hotels in the area we checked), free internet access in the room, and the free breakfast. The downside was the room housekeeping, which was less than optimal. From reading past reviews, this seems to have been a problem with others (see the review posted Feb. 24, 2007).
The location is ideal for anyone wishing to see downtown San Antonio. The hotel is directly across the street from Macy’s at Rivercenter Mall, which means that you can cross the street and go directly into a climate-controlled mall that gives you a convenient and pleasant indoor path to the Alamo and the Riverwalk, both of which are located near mall entrances. In hot, cold or rainy weather, this is a great asset. We went to the Alamo at about 8:30 pm to get some photographs, and we felt very safe (and warm) walking through the mall to get there.
The room d?cor and size was standard for hotels in this price range, but the beds were more comfortable than some we have experienced in budget hotels. There was a small desk and larger armchair, but no table. With three people sharing the room, we were a bit cramped, but it was manageable, and really it was about standard size for any downtown hotel.
The free breakfast was surprisingly good; it had standard continental breakfast fare, along with real (not powdered) scrambled eggs and sausage. One of the four mornings we were there, they also had bacon. They had stations to make your own waffles, and their waffles were shaped like the state of Texas, which was a fun touch. There were no toppings available except butter and syrup, so I topped my waffles with the fruit-flavored yogurts. Various flavors of instant oatmeal were available, as were bananas, apples, oranges, and the usual assortment of cereals, breads, pastries. The layout of the breakfast items allowed people to circulate easily among various areas, so there was little waiting involved, and there were plenty of tables available. The area was kept neat and continuously re-stocked, especially during busy times. This is something that we often find lacking in other budget hotels.
There is a charge of $16.00 per day for parking. However, there is a public parking lot beside the inn which allows all-day parking with no in and out privileges, for $5.00 per day. Since we did not need to use our car more than once a day, we parked at this lot rather than use the inn’s parking. We could go in and out once per 24-hour period and pay only $5.00 each time. This saved us a good bit of money with very little inconvenience. The entrance to the hotel is located on the other side of the hotel from the public parking lot, but we did not mind the very short walk down the hotel sidewalk from the public lot to the hotel door. The area is well lit at night and felt safe.
The housekeeping at this hotel needs improvement. One of the lamps was unplugged when we arrived. The trash can in the room was not emptied until the third day, despite being full and having banana peels, newspapers and coffee cups in it. On the third morning we finally set the can in the middle of the floor so that the staff couldn’t miss it, and it was finally emptied. Although we always leave our room neat enough that it can be easily cleaned, we did not see evidence of anything other than bed making and towel changing, and one day the housekeeper took three used bath towels and left us only two fresh ones, despite there being three people using the room. Sink faucets had water spots and were obviously not wiped down daily. When our tissue dispenser was empty, the housekeeper left a new box on the counter without bothering to open it and put it into the built-in dispenser. I easily removed the empty box and replaced the new one, but these are the type of details that tell me the housekeepers rushed through and did only minimal cleaning, even though we left tips each day. We are accustomed to better cleaning even in budget hotels.
However, the other aspects of our stay were positive, so I would consider staying here again if the price was right. The location, free breakfast and free internet access make this hotel a good choice for people who value these features.

We stayed over a slow weekend for the Riverwalk. Check-in was a breeze.
The hotel was really nice. Our room had upgraded linens like we expect in a Hyatt type hotel. Our room was on the 14th floor so we had a view and the elevators were fast. The Riverwalk mall and Denny's were across the street.
The breakfast was upgraded, too. We enjoyed both mornings. Never mind the out of control sick little girl who's screams broke glass (and our ears) and insisted on coughing all over the food. We got back to our room fast.
The maid service was excellent.
Self-park was $16 a day added to our bill (almost an extra day - see below).
Check-out was fine except when I asked for a late check-out they gave me till 1 PM. That's OK - but we were running late (slow). I asked what if we leave at 1:05 PM? The straight faced answer was - then we'll charge you! We moved the car out of self-park to the 15 minute check-in lot so we wouldn't get charged. Our maid told us to take our time - she was nice. At 1:30 PM we were loading up the car and all was fine.
Our Pomeranian loved the hotel - they were very pet friendly.
We would stay again although the rate was very high - we could have been 10 more blocks away at a new La Quinta for 1/3 the price (special 3 day web offer).
