In Tucson 6/29-7/2 to visit family member in hospital on east side of town. From Google Maps and Trip Advisor found several places to stay in that area but nothing with good reviews. We discovered the Lodge at Ventana Canyon was only about five miles away. Compared to rates quoted by the chain hotels we'd checked the off season rate at the Lodge sounded too good to be true but it lived up to everything described in their website. Location on far northeast side of town, long way from I-10 won't fit everyone but the mountains are worth the drive. Secure manned gated entry. We'd passed on upgrade to mountain view room but ours still had great view of the mountains from private balcony. Room was huge, with good bed and linens, large bathroom with tub plus separate shower, and frig and microwave. First class service...FedEx package we needed was waiting in our room, and when we left rent car lights on overnight engineer was there in 3 minutes to jump it. Workout facilities, free and open 24 hours a day, were all we got to use but the golf, tennis and pool looked outstanding. Enjoyed walking the beautiful grounds and golf course in the evening specially after rains that cooled things off two nights. We'd hesitated about the $24/day "resort fee" that's added since we weren't really going to use the resort, but it covers all tipping and even after it was added the overall rate was still close to what we'd paid at a Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn during a month earlier trip to Tucson. We didn't try the restaurant at the Lodge, which doesn't appear to get much use this time of year, but enjoyed nice Italian and Mexican food dinners a couple of miles away on Sunrise Road. Overall our stay was a great experience that we would certainly like to repeat.

Just returned from six wonderful nights at The Lodge, a lovely upscale tennis and golf resort featuring amazing views of the Santa Catalina Mountains from our private balcony (Room 200). The suites are immaculate and comfortable, featuring southwestern decor, a complete kitchen, dining and sitting area, kingsize bed, claw-foot soaking tub and huge walk-in shower. Gorgeous landscaping and natural scenery combine for a luxurious setting, the food is good and reasonably priced, but what truly stands out is the service. The staff, from chambermaids to concierges, are professional, amiable and thoughtful, and go above and beyond to satisfy. One night we returned hungry only to find everything closed up at that late hour. We asked the concierge where we could get some food nearby and he downloaded a menu from a local eatery, took and placed our order, drove to the restaurant and delivered our meals directly to our room! And there is no tipping expected ( we did tip him, of course) as there is a general daily service fee added on to the bill. There is a small fitness room with a variety of equipment and outdoor pool, ping pong table, etc. The hotel provides free transportation to nearby Sabino Canyon where the scenery is spectacular. Hiking there is a must. Also, they'll take you to Loew's, the resort next door, which has a wonderful Sunday Blues Brunch Buffet, featuring live music and in addition to every kind of fresh food imaginable, yummy sushi, mimosas, and a western barbeque, reasonably priced. If and when we return to Tucson, we will definitely stay at The Lodge.

We knew it was going to be a nice stay when we were greeted out in front of the hotel by Becky who checked us in, took our luggage, and gave us a tour. We also got upgraded to a suite with a loft (2 queens and private bath and tv in loft) which was perfect for us and our kids loved it. The feel is more like staying at a nice country club rather than a resort hotel. Members mix with guests to produce a pretty lively atmosphere...eg. the bar and dining rooms were typically filled, esp. late afternoon. The pool is rather plain by resort standards but is Olympic size and was just fine for us (nice chairs, towels, locker facilities). Tennis facilities were ample and the pros and staff were great, although it did not seem like many guests were there to play tennis. The result was that my wife was the only one in the Wednesday drop in clinic...effectively receiving a private lesson for 1.5 hours for $20.
Also, about a mile west of the Lodge is Sabino Canyon, a great place to walk/hike/bike to closely observe desert nature. Also, if you want a resort style pool, the Lodge offers its guests access to the pool at the Loews right up the street...
Great stay. We will return.

This lodge is really first class. I've stayed in very few places where the service is this good.
First of all, we got the the lodge very early the day of our arrival. Within an hour our room was ready (way before it was supposed to be) AND they had upgraded us to a two bedroom suite. The suite was the biggest and nicest room I have ever seen!
Some of the wonderful things to do at the lodge are: swimming, playing tennis and golf, taking a hike into the foothills (stunning), eating great food, and just relaxing.
All of the staff we encountered at the lodge were very professional and friendly. I am ready to go back and stay again.

Outstanding vacation. When we arrived, we were greeted by name and escorted directly to our room. They do not have a traditional front desk, they do check-in in the suite. Our very large suite had a balcony that looked out at the mountains, had a claw foot tub, and a full kitchen. The service is impeccable in the hotel, restaurant, bar, spa, and golf shop.
Ventana Canyon is well known for it terrific golf, however, their tennis facility is also outstanding. The pros are very friendly and offer a discount on your first lesson. We took a lesson each day even though we had booked on a golf package. We originally booked for 3 nights and decided to stay for the week.
