A Perfectly Nice Place

Stayed 1 night at this hotel in April, '08. My experience was much
better than most prior reviewers. Found there IS space in front
of hotel to get luggage from the car prior to parking. I was fortunate to be offered a choice of 2 rooms. Chose one facing
Collins (busy st) on the 6th floor, w/king bed. Carpet was clean,
had decent TV, refrigerator, average-quality linens & towels. In
any large city I take a white noise machine and put in on near the
offending window. Closed windows, put on a/c. Slept like a baby
which is unusual for me. I've travelled throughout the US and
Europe on business, and found this hotel to be very good value.
Ricardo, Ofc Mgr, was most pleasant and helpful. My only compaint is that no decaf coffee is available at breakfast, and no skim or low-fat milk to put on the cereal. Other than that, I
enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It's not a Ritz Carlton, but neither
is the price.
1 Star @ 3 Star Price.

Hi, we stayed here one night (thank God). When you arrive you find a very nice lobby, but once you get upstairs that's another story...
1 star, super noisy, tiny rooms.
(You can even hear people whispering outside your door).
Awful, awful beds.
Mediocre staff.
Ancient TV.
Boutique hotel $.
Oh, one good thing:
Super white bathrooms.

We stayed one night at Ocean Spray while attending the Miami Boat Show. Since this was our second time in Miami Beach, we knew what to expect. Hotels are expensive, especially chain hotels. Boutique hotels are smaller and have fewer services, but are basically what you are looking for if you don't want to pay over $200 dollars a night. We thought the Ocean Spray was fine. The lobby is clean, spare, and inviting. The room was reasonably sized for a deco hotel, and the bathroom was in clean and in good shape. I would prefer natural flooring versus the carpeting, but I didn't think it was dirty, just a bit worn. We were welcomed to our room with soft music playing on the stereo. The continental breakfast was a welcome bonus, even if a bit regimented. You could go back for seconds if you needed them. The location is a couple of miles from the action of South Beach, but it is walkable if you are in shape. Take the board walk which is well lit and patroled to avoid the noise of the traffice. It is across the street from the beach, so take the ocean view with a grain of salt. If you are in Miami on business, and not expecting a resort, this is a good option.

I stayed at the Ocean Spray Hotel on Feb 28th, 2008. I searched and searched for a hotel, trying to avoid paying $200 plus. However, I quickly realized that it's extremely expensive to stay in Miami Beach and all hotel prices are inflated (especially this time of year!) and so paying $106 for the Ocean Spray did not seem so bad. But you pay for what you get.....
Here is a quick summary of my experience -
Hotel Staff - VERY FRIENDLY
Elevator - scared me, so I took the stairs
Rooms - Very small, dated, clean bedding but crappy basic bedding, old carpets, renovated bathroom (probably about 5 years ago or so) however they didn't do the best job on the sink counters.
location - NOT GREAT, the action is in South Beach and this hotel is a 30 minute walk to get there. Now the Beach is only about 4 minutes away but trust me you'll want to stay in south beach.

The only good thing about this hotel is it's location, just couple of steps from the beach. Beware that it is located in Central Miami Beach and is not so near all the bars and restaurants in the South Beach zone, so if you want to be in the middle of everything, choose something else. This fact, wouldn't be such a problem if the breakfast they offer was really the continental one. It's not even close. Every morning the same sad scene where you have to choose between a bagel and a toast (and you'll get more than one piece only if you ask), a muffin and a waffle, and an apple and a banana. And if a lady who is providing you with all this stuff (no way that you can do it yourself, that way you might be tempted to take both apple AND banana or some other forbidden combination) is in a good mood, she might give you a little cheese on top of everything. So, if you stay more than two days, you'll just have to go somewhere else to have a decent breakfast, so think well whether you want to be in a zone in which you cannot find more than 1 decent restaurant within a walking distance.
The other thing - we paid a room with an ocean view, but since we were on the first floor we couldn't see anything but the building across the street. Reading the other reviews I became quite curious if it would be any different if we were a bit higher.
And maybe the biggest problem of all - they are not generous at all when it comes to towels. Two medium-sized and two little ones is less than enough, especially when not changed during the whole stay of five days.
Conclusion: Ocean Spray hotel is acceptable ONLY if you're on a really tight budget. If not, do yourself a favor and don't even think about it.
