Total miscommunication and shady dealings

In April my son and his new bride had their wedding reception at New World Inn. It looked nice and the wait staff did a good job and that's about all I can say that's nice. It seems we had a lot of miscommunication with the event manager and also with the bar manager. We were told the beer price was high so the gratuity was added right into the price. Wrong - -when we got the bill there was an extra 17% gratuity. I explained to the manager that we had been told the gratuity was included in the price of the kegs which was why they were sold at such a high price and he agreed that there must have been some type of error and would remove the price of the gratuity from our bill. I thanked him and didn't get into why the price of the pop was higher than I had been told, and why we paid for a security guard that we didn't have. After all, I was grateful that he realized there had been a problem, and did something to rectify it. Sounds okay, right?
Wrong. About a month later, my new daughter-in-law called me telling me there was a problem. The tip that was supposed to be removed was now on her parents' credit card bill. I went in to the hotel to speak to them about this and I was told that since her parents had signed a contract stating that there was a 17% gratuity on all food and drink, they were now the ones responsible for the gratuity. I was floored. That would be like finding a bug in your food somewhere, having the establishment tell you they would not charge for the meal and then adding the price of the meal to the bill of the person at the next table. I had them remove the charge from the bride's parents bill and I paid for it . I would never reccomend this venue to anyone as long as this group of people are still managing it. This was probably what I found most maddening about the whole thing, but there were other problems, too. The meal was not the best - - the chicken was good, the pork was very dry and overcooked. They put champange on a table where no one sat and opened it so it would have to be paid for. They removed the wine glasses before the toasts because they didn't have the equipment set up for the video that was to be shown during that time. They provided no security guard that was already paid for.
I will say once again that the courtyard looked very nice and our guests had a good time, but for as many weddings as they cater, you would think they'd have their stuff together by now. If you do book a event there, you had better make sure every little thing is documented in advance because their word isn't worth much.

Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds and an outstanding and helpful staff. Room service was prompt and the food was great. Have had many bad stays at hotels as I work the horse races as a video tech thru the year. This year decided to try the New World Inn and I am not disappointed at all and will continue to stay there throughout the rest of the live racing meet.

Wedding Reception Dissapointment

I personally do not advise anyone to have a wedding reception at the New World Inn in Columbus Nebraska. Where do I even start... I thought I was going to have a wedding of my dreams, but that didn't happen. It started out when the grooms father asked for coffee at the head table. The servers had no clue what was going on. Every question we had for them, they had to go ask the "manager", of which we never even met. I had no clue who this person was, she never came out to introduce herself. Then the servers dropped a pan of meat by the buffet table for all my wedding guests to see and walk around the mess. Oh and then they started to take the food away without even asking us if we were through eating. People didn't get to go for seconds when we paid for the food! Oh and the fancy punch fountain we paid for that the servers were suppose to take care of through out the night...It was bubbling powder within 3 hours. May I say Horrible and embarrassing?.
OH and to make things worse, there was another wedding reception in the courtyard. I thought everything would be ok, but when we go to our suite, to my horror, the room was right outside the other wedding party's blasting band. None of our wedding guests were able to sleep either. It was so embarrassed, I wanted everything to go well for all the guests, but I know they were irritated because some of them were from out of town and had to catch a early flight out of Omaha the next morning. I could not believe that this had happened. Who ever was in charge of blocking the rooms for the wedding, did an absolute horrible job.
I tried calling the events coordinator who put this all together and it took her 3 days to get back with me. All they could say was that they were sorry. I just want everyone who is thinking about having a reception at this hotel to know about what happened at mine and maybe they will have a better experience somewhere else.
