Booked a 2 brm suite with 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite) for a weekend trip to Melbourne for 2 couples. The best rate I could get was with the hotel for AUD$266/night.
Location is very convenient, close to everything. Lots of shops and restaurants and China Town very close by.
We had apartment 1003 facing towards the Hyatt with views of the churches and a sliver of river, it was stunning, particularly at night. Small little balcony but nice to stand out on for a drink and to soak in the view.
The lobby of the hotel is small and motel like but the staff were friendly and helpful. We took a two lift process to get to our room- no big deal. There is lift access down onto Russell which you can use which is convenient. The room floors are all key card activated.
The decor of the suite was all white with black leather look lounges and red cushions, white coffee table and entertainment unit. Personally I love white, our friends thought it looked totally bland. One negative with white walls in a high volume place if=s that they get very marked and there were lots of "washing off" marks. The TV/DVD/CD player were all good.
Kitchen is good, well stocked with crockery, cutlery, utensils and glass ware. Fridge very clean, no smell and in good order. Washing machine and dryer looked in good shape but we didn't use them. A/C was efficient.
King bedroom was big, lots of hanging space. Small and functional ensuite with bath and separate shower. Like previous user I think the mold/mildew on the tiles is inexcusable- how hard can it be to regrout! and stick in an extra exhaust fan. This made the difference between a 3 and 4 star review! Mentioned it to the guy at checkout who made no comment. I picked up a mail in evaluation form to send this week. Having said that we styed at the Novotel on Collins a couple of years ago and the shower was worse!! Bedding and linen were all good, clean and comfortable, they use doonas and sheets to cover them which I really like.
Our friends had the queen room, they though it was good but once again let down by the tiles in the shower. There were hairdryers and lots of amenities supplied- extra tissues, lotion, soap, shampoo and conditioner.
I would stay again if the rate was good and the tile problem had been adressed. It would be a great apartment if you had a family with you because of the kitchen/laundry facilities and the location. If it was just my husband and I I would go for something more upmarket.

Excellent: Nothing
Good: some staff members. Washer and dryer. Room space. Broken sink faucet was fixed promptly. Bed. Lots of shelves behind the mirror in the bath.
So So: Location. More than normal wear and tear on the room and hallways. Many stains on carpet. Clock was set for AM when it was PM. Leaking toilet was fixed the next day.
Bad: Steps make it difficult to move bags. Terrible condition of tile and grout in shower (if you can have a sticker made about the issue then the problem has existed for too long). Mildew was also present. Fridge starting acting up on 3rd day. Went on tour and came back to find it not working at all. Called the front desk right before they closed and they said there was nothing they could do. I did get a trash bag from them to dump my dinner and breakfast items in the trash but no offer of compensation was made. On the AM of check out the fridge started to smell. I mentioned again at check out that we had to throw out our food and again they were oblivious to good customer service. They did apologise but that was it.
The Hero will work in a pinch but there are many serviced apartments in this area. You will be better off elsewhere until they can do some renovations on this place.
