Had to interupt woman at front desk who was reading a magazine to be checked in. Was not showed where anything was. Waited several minutes in dining room in morning for breakfast to no avail! Again, front desk was too busy reading!! I asked to speak to management she said she was it... are you kidding???
Do not go to this hotel! Limited parking, poor receptionist with attitude!!

The staff were not interested in meeting the needs of the guests. Staff did not know such things as how to get to the airport, or where a good restaurant was located. No one helped with luggage and there is no elevator. Breakfast was poor with only English muffins offered one morning and nothing available another morning. The rooms are stuffy and over priced. The only positive is the building itself which houses some lovely furnishings.
Staff acts like they have a monopoly in the area. Completely terrible service!

We actually did not stay in the hotel - we arrived on August 26, 2007 at 1:30 PM for brunch. There were no parking spots in their tiny parking lot (it held about 8 cars) and a sign in the park saying that it was valet only. My boyfriend waited in the car while I went in to ask about the parking situation. When I went in, there was no one to help me at the door and about 3 staff members walked by me before someone asked if I needed help. I asked about the valet parking situation and the hostess/server responded that there was no valet on Sunday before turning around. Someone else had to mention that parking could be found on the street because it was free on Sunday. We parked and came back in immediately. Again, no was was at the door for assistance. A server came and rather rudely asked us if we had a reservation (the restaurant was about 1/4 full inside and only one table was occupied on the patio). We said no and asked for a table for two outside. She didn't respond, but just walked away outside. She returned a moment later and told us that it would be a minute. When our table was ready a few minutes later (again, every table was available outside but one), she said "your table is ready" as she walked past us. We went out to our table, unaccompanied, and found dirty plates. After no one approached us for our drink order, my boyfriend went inside to find assistance, and again, no one was available. We were so disgusted, we just got up and left without another word.
The service was just terrible. We weren't expecting much, but what we got just was completely substandard. 0 stars, unless I can give -5. It looked so promising from the side, and the service ruined everything.

I had a very pleasant stay for two nights at this hotel. My room and bath were large, clean and comfortable. There is beautiful woodwork and original 1800's decor in this interesting building. Very convenient to Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and Oakland.
