We stay at the Savoy once or twice a month on business, and the reason we make it our regular Hobart hotel is because it is so good. This is a small hotel right in the middle of the CBD and just a short walk to the waterfront entertainment district. Each 'room' is more like a small apartment with a kitchenette adequate for preparing a meal. Breakfast packs are provided and basic breakfasts are also available in the hotel but there is no regular dining onsite. We usually go to Beaujangles in the adjacent shopping mall for a good coffee and cooked breakfast, and for lunch we've always had great food and service at Nourish cafe another block north along the main street., For dinner there are plenty of great restaurants around the harbour, two blocks away. Back at the hotel, the ensuites have a spa bath, very relaxing after a hard day's work. For more relaxation there is a very luxurious day spa in the basement with swimming pool, jet spas, sauna, steam room, massages etc. This is a separate business in the same building but hotel guests get reduced prices. The hotel rooms are well furnished and we've always found them to be very clean. Heating/cooling and sound seperation between rooms are excelent. Reception is one floor up from the street entry level, and staff there are friendly and very helpful. There is no parking onsite but the hotel has an arrangement with a multi-storey carpark in the next block so you only pay a flat $5 each time you exit. Overall, this is a small and delightful hotel superbly located in the Hobart CBD. We recommend it highly.

The hotel, as others have commented upon, is convenient for the centre of Hobart. The room I had was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge (not a complaint), a reflection that the hotel accommodation has been converted from some earlier format, so it is likely that not all rooms will be the same. Reception staff were courteous and pleasant, but not especially noteworthy. From this one might conclude that I found the stay acceptable. This would be certainly true of the hotel itself but getting into the building was a trial. I was driving and know Hobart reasonably well but not sufficiently to be aware of local traffic restrictions. The hotel is situated on part of Elizabeth Street which only buses and taxis are permitted to enter; passenger vehicles are prohibited. In the end I parked two blocks away and walked back to the hotel to check in. When I asked if there was somewhere to park nearby to drop off luggage, I was told that I could park in front of the hotel. When I said that traffic was prohibited to enter the street, I was told to ignore the posted traffic regulation. I'm not sure that this would prevent one getting an on-the spot fine from the police! The hotel has an arrangement with a nearby car park but this is two blocks away and costs $5 each time you enter. As I discovered when I left the car park next morning, the night fee was $3.60 for which I was charged $5 by the hotel. The $1.40 difference isn't at issue, it's just the fact that they squeezed a bit more money out of me without telling me at the time. I only had an overnight case so walking down the street wasn't a problem but I'm not sure that I'd be so sanguine if I had suitcase and it was raining. Given the range of hotels in the area, next time I stay in Hobart I'll go somewhere else more convenient.

The Quest Savoy Hotel is located almost in the Hobart city centre, alongside the metropolitan bus terminus and across the road from one end of the city's Mall. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the wharf restaurant precinct and Salamanca Place.
Reception is located on the first floor but is unattended after 9.00pm, and you need to ring a telephone number shown on the main door to check in. Similarly, you need your room key to open the front door of the hotel if you arrive back late of an evening.
Our Studio Deluxe room was spacious and included a well-equipped kitchen, dining table, coffee table and 2-seater couch. The usefulness of the space is somewhat constricted, however, by a large pillar (holding a TV on a swivel stand) between the foot of the bed and the entry area. This means you can watch TV in bed (uncomfortable, because the stand is too high on the pillar) or from the couch, diagonally across the room.
Hanging and storage space is limited for the size of the room and we had to leave our single suitcase under the coffee table during our 4-night stay as there was no specific luggage stand and insufficient room in the wardrobe . While the bathroom was modern and contained a good selection of essentials, the shower head (in the bath) is too low for comfort.
The self-controlled aircondioning is effective although ours refused to function and needed some attention from the staff on one afternoon.
A continental breakfast is available in the 'cafe (3 tables and a PC for internet use on the first floor) for $10 per person or you could use the continental pack provided in the room for $9. Although there was only one pack in our room, I'm sure the staff would have provided another on request.
The staff we dealt with were all courteous and helpful and made for a pleasant stay.
In summary, this is an acceptable hotel for the online discounted price that we paid but people seeking sophisticated accommodation staffed on a 24-hour basis should look elsewhere.

We recently stayed here for two nights. The room was small-ish, but it was modern and clean. Two things to be prepared for:
- we arrived on a late night flight and got to the hotel at 11pm. We did not know that the hotel's front desk shuts down at 9pm, and one is to call a local phone number for their night patrol guy (who also patrols two other hotels) to open the door and get you in. Not a big deal, and we were lucky that the night patrol saw our shuttle come around the block and therefore came to open the door for us, but if he didn't, we might be stuck searching for a public phone with the right coins at 11pm.
- we booked for our two nights on the hotel's own website. We did not realize, and nowhere did it mention, that our two nights were on a special package that did not include any servicing of the room. We were caught without enough clean towels after our first night, and, you guessed it, the front desk closes at 9pm so we were hardpressed to find anybody around.
We would stay there again, but be prepared!
