this hotel is dirty and in need of a total revamp avoid at all costs!!!

Stayed in November at the County and it was ok. I got a special deal on the hotel website and overall it was good value. Room was very clean which was surprising (after looking at other reviews) but could do with some paint. I dont like carlisle but the hotel was ok and probably better than the rest of the town.

Hey! I stayed at the county hotel on New Years Eve, and 26th Jan......i think its great! me and the party i was with couldnt of been made more welcome and at home!!! wot more can you ask for apart from a room other than it being generously proportioned, contemporary, comfortable and clean, which the county is all of the above ........i mean i would hardly say the room i was in was absolute luxurious but i certainally enjoyed my stay and will be going back, the hotel was homely and lived in (if you no wot i mean) other places your frightend to breathe but believe me you will feel so relaxed and made feel welcome that you will return, P.S the boss/receptionist rocks!!! (soz forgot ya name, you know who you are) ha! And then theres night porter on who is willing to open the bar for you at any point......its great! trust me!!!

I was staying at this hotel for 3 days during early August 2007. The place was "tired" and requires extensive refurbishment. Carpets in corridors are filthy - outside room 134; room carpets are filthy - in room 134. Room 135 was dirty. It had two velux window on the roof one of which had a curtain which was filthy and the other had no curtain at all. Guests of my party requested linen changes; sinks to be cleaned and chairs covered to prevent filth from transferring to their clothes. Car parking was a nightmare and a dispute arose between some of my guests and local authority enforcers. Never again will I stay at this hotel. Not a very good image for Carlisle. Staff dress and customer care attitiude were in complete harmony with their environment. One hundred and twenty dis-satisfied guests.

carlisle:the county hotel"i loved it" date:october 17,2007 reviewer:a french traveller. i read trip advisor after i have book as you can imagine. i booked with much trepidation on arrival i was greated by a very pleasant receptionnist who give me a key to my room 317. the room was large with a lovely view of the city. upon trough inspection turned out to be very clean. breakfast next morning was very good. served by a pleasant portuguese girl who understood all my need. on the whole i find the county hotel to be nice,clean,well run hotel,with pleasant staff. does need refurbish but it is nothing like the earlier review lead you to understand. i would certainly stay here again in carlisle. to finish off despite an early review i did not come across legions of polish staff and in my experience the hotel is run by english peoples with very pleasant portuguese girl in restaurant.
