This early-'90s-era condo resort has fabulous curbside appeal at check-in, but once inside, the Star's brightness fades. The pink-on-pink-on-pink decor (walls, carpet, furnishings), rundown pool area and unkempt grounds are just begging to be updated. The resort has a lot going on -- pools, bars, tennis courts, activities, etc., -- but none of it is done well. The place felt dirty.
If you're being lured by the discount deal in exchange for listening to a 90-minute timeshare presentation, re-think that plan. 90 minutes became 3 hours and still no end in sight. Additionally, they weren't selling the resort itself as much as they were selling the ability to exchange your time for other resorts.
The room itself was spacious with a nice balcony, but again, needed just a little extra to make it work. The shower had only a soap dish, so all shampoos, etc., had to be put on the floor. No hooks for towels. Window blinds were broken, lamps didn't work.
The fitness facility was for "16 and over," but we saw 10 and 12-year-olds on the equipment, unsupervised. There was no attendant in sight.
Overall, a 2 star experience. Would we go back? No.

While the photos available on line are exceptional, we found the accommodations to be anything but exceptional. We were staying there on a time share exchange and requested adjoining units. We were told that we would be accommodated but found the opposite upon arrival. We were told that they could not make arrangements for us since they had overbooked. On top of the initial failure, we did not have access to many of the amenities offered by larger rooms since we were given two smaller rooms in separate buildings. The walk past the overflowing garbage dumpsters in a narrow walkway were not enticing each evening as we tried to return to our "suite". In addition to the garbage, the linens were soiled and the bathrooms less than cleaned with hair and dirt behind doors and in the shower.
While the staff was very responsive and helpful, you hate to have to deal with these issues shortly after checking in. They also only provide one free towel exchange if you stay for seven days or more. Anything more frequent can cost you $7 or more. This is not the worst place I have ever stayed but it certainly warranted a comparison.
By the way, if I hear Soulja Boy one more time, I am going to scream. The DJ played it incessantly every night from somewhere near the pool-side that our room overlooked while we were there...6 nights!

Fiance and I went to meet his parents there, who were staying in a time share.
The rooms are decorated in a brightly colored island motif... a la the Golden Girls. The bathrooms were nice.
I wasn't impressed with the hallways/walkways of the resort. They're just spraypainted concrete, and they need touched up at that.
The pool is average. A bit overcrowded while we were there - rows and rows of lawnchairs - but, the pools were clean.
We got deep tissue sports massages at the spa - they did a good job. The womens' locker room is nice. The gym is decent, but not adjacent to the locker rooms.
Overall, the guest rooms are decent, and I would stay here again if I had the opportunity. Not quite sure why it's considered a "resort" - other than the above-average pool, they don't have too much of anything that a hotel doesn't have.

This Resort was a big disappointment. It looks beautiful and looks great inside however the furniture was as hard as a rock. The rooms can be connected so they are labeled A and B and are side by side so you share the walkway up to your door. After one night of uncomfortable sleep and drunk neighbors who were out on their front porch from 12:00 till 2:00 am in the morning talking loud and laughing. I called Management but it took them two hours to come up and tell them to quiet it down. I had enough and had to go stay at an Extended Stay Hotel which was much more comfortable where I could sit on the couch without being in pain. At Star Island the sofa bed mattress had springs coming through it. Everything inside the room was hard as a rock to sit on including the bed. We had a very small refrigerator and sink when we requested a full kitchen. The pool was located on the other end of the resort. I have Lupus and let them know that and requested to be close to the pool so I could keep an eye on my kids. I was told no problem but when I got there was located as far away from the pool that someone could be. I don't expect much from a resort but at least have comfortable furniture to sit on.
