Stay away very dirty dirty dirty not a real 2 star hotel
Guest name: Bride8, arlington
The Avalon Hotel is not a true 2 star hotel any more. From the day we arrived I knew that I would here it for my guest. The place was noting like the pictures on the internet. Now when you call they will tell you that this is an old hotel and that it may need some up grades. To me the furniture was find it was the old dirty carpet, chairs and dingy sheets that took the cake for me.
All I can say it stay away. Please do not put youself through the hardship.
Don't waste your money

Some friends were in from out of state and we traveled to Erie for a night out. We had never had problems with the Avalon before, as all of us attending one college or another in the Erie area.
Our room was dirty and falling apart, wall paper peeling off the walls. We did not notice until the next morning but the room was infested with ants and we all woke up with bites on our legs.
This was the worst hotel experience we have ever had. We complained to the front desk and they offered no apology - just a measly 5% discount. The front desk clerk was too busy on the phone to deal with us.
Save your money - this hotel should be a rent by the hour and not a place you bring family or friends to say.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Erie PA.
My husband and daughter checked in for a wedding and the first room we had appeared not to have been cleaned very well. There was dried food on the carpet, hair all over the bathroom floors and stains on the chairs. Since we checked in late in the afternoon we were going to live with it because we figured it would be cleaned in the morning. Well, after returning to our room around 1:30 in the am, we turned down the bed covers and there were huge disgusting stains on the sheets. We asked to change rooms nad the response that we got from the clerk at the desk was "I guess no one cleaned up" Nice Response!
The second room was cleaner but the ceilings had cob webs and there were gaps in between the wall and ceiling. It was not attractive. Also I could hear the guests who were staying in the next room as clearly as if they were in the room with us.
Lastly, There were other guests staying on the floor who were extremely loud, yelling in the halls and slamming doors it was terrifying in the middle of the night because it would startle you from your sleep. Finally, around probably 4 am it stopped. Thankfully, we were checking out that day. Not soon enough for me.
If you have to come to Erie stay at the Sheraton.

we recently attended an event at the avalon with a large group of over 200 people. a large portion of us became ill from a food born illness. the erie health department was contacted and investigated the situation. after an investigation the avalon was sighted for numerous health code violations. all of these facts can be documented in an article in teh local newspaper.

stayed in Apr 2008
We stayed at the Avalon on March 22, 2008. We have stayed at this property several times in the past with no problems.
On this occasion, we arrived back at our room around midnight and looked for extra pillows, blanket, the tv remote and could not find any of the above.
When we complained about this Sunday morning, the manager said we should have called the front desk and asked for these items. I replied that at midnight, we did not feel like waiting an unknown length of time for these items.
Also beginning around 1:30am ( Sunday ) several rowdy guests a few doors down on our floor apparently returned from an exciting night out and decided to continue the excitement in their room, in the hall, yelling and screaming, slamming their doors, etc. Each time I was about to call the front desk, they quieted down and I began to doze off. Then it all started again. Finally at 3:30am I called the front desk and someone ( security ??? ) came up and talked to the parties involved. Sleep at last.
When I complained to the manager in the morning, the best he said he could do was offer a 10% discount on the room, in return for us loosing half a night's sleep. Bah !!!
Avalon, good bye.
