I agree with other reviewers that the decor/furnishings are about 10 years past their prime, and breakfast wasn't anything amazing (but it was included in our room price and frankly there's no way we could've done better for $10 for the two of us!), but the location was actually what made the GC for us. It may not be in the heart of the city but it's close to the cultural precinct and very, very close to the city's good bars and some good restaurants (around High St).

We stayed here for one night when we landed in New Zealand for our holiday.
The accommodation was very comfortable and well priced for such a good hotel. The hotel room was very spacious and well equipped. The staff were friendly and courteous and nothing seemed too much trouble. This hotel is centrally located, and city shopping just outside the hotel. This is an ideal base for travelers.

Booked this hotel on its recommended 4 star rating on wotif.com
We arrived and were welcomed warmly which was nice. The lobby was a nice place. Once we got to our room I was very disappointed as the tired look of it. Very out dated and not what we had expected. It was however clean and tidy. I am unsure how this is rated as a 4 star as other places I have stayed at rated the same are of a much higher standard and quality. All and all not really that impressed and would not recommend it to others I am sorry to say.

Staff were unfriendly; breakfast food was extremely poor. Room quite ordinary. Seem more interested in large tours than independent travelers. Location is not as good as many others in central business district. Would not stay here again and in fact, stayed at Rydges the following week which was superior in every way.

Stayed 2 days and used the very large corner room for business meetings.
Excellent views and light, large windows on both sides. Huge bed, wardrobe etc? Good sized clean bathroom.
Late check out was no problem. Lots of shopping, cafes and bars surround the hotel.
Room service lunch a little slow but very nice. I will happily stay again.
