We stayed here for one night on 2nd July. We had a change in our travel plans and wanted somewhere close to the airport. We contacted the hotel from the US to say that we would be arriving at 6am in the morning and asked if it would be alright to leave our luggage at that time. They took this as a request for an early check-in but didn't tell us this when we arrived. Fortunately our flight was late and it was closer to 8am when we arrived so we stored our bags and caught the bus into Auckland. When we arrived back the receptionist expressed surprise that we hadn't checked in that morning and then told us about the early check-in. There was a lack of communication between reception staff although they were all very pleasant. We were able to get a late check-out the next day. The staff were also helpful in directing us to the bus stop. The bus journey took about 40 minutes into the city centre. If you are travelling into Auckland by bus be sure that the bus driver lets you out at the stop across the road from the hotel as the next stop is about half a km up the road. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and also had the buffet breakfast in the morning. Both meals were very reasonably priced, the breakfast was $25 per person but quite good. As we had been travelling for 8 weeks we had quite a bit of luggage so required the services of the porter. When he hadn't arrived after a few minutes I went out to reception and they immediately phoned him. In all the service was good and I would recommend this hotel to anyone having a stopover with connecting flights in Auckland. If you are planning on spending any length of time in Auckland somewhere more central would be preferable.

I am a business traveller. So to book into a hotel with Internet is essential. In all my travels I have never been to a worse serviced (and I travel in 3rd world countries) hotel for broadband service.
I say that because it is one thing not to have Internet, but it is another to claim you have it and have it so poorly that it is a disaster and your employees cringe to hear about it.
I was moved to 3 rooms before getting to a room that had a signal bar above 55%. I was upgraded to a suite. This is all happening at 1am.. so the suite was to me a compromise between sleep and broadband.
It gets worse. They charge by download, not by hours or days. $14.95 for 20mb. 3 files from office and I was over limit and it cut me off, mid file. 2 recharges later, I was ready to go nuts.
So if you are a business traveller, avoid this hotel and any other in the chain. The Internet policy is disaster and the employees cop the abuse.

This Hotel is the pits. Where do I start?
The outside looks great, but rooms are tired and shabby.
The only thing on offer at the restaurant was a buffet for $32, which consisted of some very unappetising looking cafeteria style dishes.
Check in was slow and inefficient.
When I called the front desk, it took 45 minutes for someone to answer. I was then informed that the advertised wireless internet available was, in fact, not available in all the rooms. The most unhelpful and disinterested persom om the desk could have cared less.
There is no air con. Rooms are incredibly stuffy. There is an overhead fan, which sounded like a helicopter and whirled stuffy air around.
Toiletries and fittings were the cheapest of cheap.
I can't believe they would charge $185 for this place! Don't stay here. Serious problems.

It was a hard choice to convince ourselves to stay here due to the poor reviews. However we were arriving at the airport just after midnight and wanted somewhere nearby for a good sleep and a late check out. We booked on line and via e-mails, got a midday check out and a reasonable rate of NZD146. The bus trip from the airport worked well ($5 each) and took 15 minutes.
Reception was efficient, polite and friendly. A porter was immediately available to assist with our luggage to our first floor room. We had low expectations and were pleasantly surprised with our ‘superior room’. It was tastefully decorated, nice pale blue carpet, excellent drapes, 2 chairs, table, desk, modern TV, fridge, electric water jug etc. There was a balcony overlooking the inner garden courtyard and pool. There was little traffic noise. Air conditioning worked well and the bedroom was spacious. The bathroom was acceptable but did steam up when you showered. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the quality of the food other than to say my local cousin says he has often attended seminars there and the food has always been acceptable.
Should we require an airport hotel again in Auckland we would probably stay here again. We had a good sleep and that is what we wanted.

We and other fellow travellers on a delayed international flight (which caused us to miss our internal connections) were put up at Grand Chancellor by Air NZ. They also paid for our transfers on the hotel shuttle ($5 each way).
The hotel is very tired, and is in urgent need of reburbishment. The room was old and drab, with an uncomfortable bed which appear to be in on its last legs. The clock radio was broken. For what we required, - a bed for the night in a hurry, it was great. The check-in staff were very efficient.
We were happily surprised by the breakfast, which was above expectations. There was a good, varied selection, and the hot breakfast was done well. Don't search for the toast, - they bring these to your table in a toast rack.
Overall, the hotel is good for a layover, but not much else.
