This hotel has lovely public areas and the Lobby Bar offers all day service including fabulous afternoon teas. The restaurant was great for breakfast and although we didn't dine here for dinner (hotel is surrounded by restaurants) it looked to be quite a nice menu. We found the rooms spacious as were the bathrooms. I had read previous posts before arriving and sure enough - there was a dirty breakfast tray outside our door when we checked in! I think the hotel may be a little short on housekeeping staff as we stayed 3 nights and one day our room wasn't made up until after 3pm. Despite this, we had a comfortable stay and found the staff gracious and helpful. We had a back room and found the traffic noise a little loud but it settled down later in the night. This hotel actually packs quite a bit of punch for a 4 star hotel and certainly is not your average bland chain hotel. It was clean, comfortable and spacious and prices in the bars and restaurants were very reasonable so all in all - not too much to complain about really.

The Grand Chancellor started its life as a Sheraton. The people of Hobart did not at first warm to a high rise block hotel overlooking the funky waterfront with its fish cafes and boat harbour. Time and other new buildings have eased the strain and the Grand Chancellor is now very much part of the Hobart scene. The rooms are clean and well cared for, the lobby is gracious and uncluttered and the restaurant is adequate for lunch and dinner and excellent for breakfast. However what makes this hotel stand out from the crowd is its unobtrusive, but caring service and attention to detail. Despite some stern competition from newer and sleeker competitors I am convinced this is the best hotel in Hobart

Spent a well deserved restful weekend at this hotel and was not disapointed. The reception staff were very friendly and the concierge went out of their way to help us make the most of our stay in Hobart, even suggesting cheaper alternatives to what we were looking to do which was appreciated . The room was above average in size, clean and well appointed and had a wonderful view of the harbour below. Internet access was great . Didn't eat their as it was a smorgasbord all weekend which is not our thing and was a little dissapointing as we saw advertisements for their steak menue all over the hotel. However the staff were more than abliging in helping us find several alternatives. Definately recomment this hotel.
