This was one of the dirtiest, run down places we have ever stayed in !
Everything felt as if it had not been cleaned in years, inside or out. Very nasty.
Would never go back there again...

We stayed in the tropical palms resort in jULY 2008 This place is great if you have kids and the price could not be beat for what you get. The cottages are clean and contain everthing you need. The location was great - 1 mile to old town / FUN SPOT. Fun Spot was great my kids got arm bands and I got in free. Free soda for everyone. It was good but watch out because Old Town has a little carnvial also and their bands are not good at Fun Spot - Fun Spot had great go karts and it was unlimited with bands.
The grounds were nice and clean. The heated pool area was nice place. There is a snack bar by the side of the pool which served food and smoothies.
The room had everything we needed... FULL KITCHEN. We cooked every morning and evening and just ate out for lunch. It has a full size stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and dishes. The bedrooms have doors for privacy. The couch pulls out to a bed and my kids LOVED the loft !!!!
I would go back here over any hotel when I get back to Orlando.
However, if I had to say something bad, I would say that our cottage was ready for refurbishing but the rooms were very clean.
Book it, the price can't be beat !!!!

Just got back today from a 5 night stay at Tropical Palms Resort & FunPlace.
A little history - we were staying here with our sports team for a tournament at Disneys Wide World of Sports. We brought 35 kids, 5 coaches a team mom & at least 20-25 parents, so about 55-60 people total.
First when we arrived on Sunday afternoon, the cottages were NOT ready. Our kids had to stay on bus until they were cleaned,, which took a total of about 2 1/2 hours total. Others were coming in getting their cottages right away. Possibly ours were later because we wanted them together.
To stat off with - Tropical Palms could be a really nice place - if it were cleaned up. The campsites looked nice & I would consider camping here if given the chance.
The "cottages" onthe other hand - a totally different story - espcially the ones in the back - we were on Nassau Dr - 441 The "cottages" were like single wide mobile homes. The decor - straight out of the 50s/60s. Very small. You walk in the door - its the living room with only a very worn couch & side table, Dining table which seats 4. Kitchen NOT fully stocked. 2 microwaves - why I don't know - the white one above the stove was FILTHY. The other was ok after we had wiped it out. The bathroom was small but ok. The bedrooms - small one next to the bathroom - double bed - rock hard mattress. Only about 6 inches on either side of the bed. There was about 3 feet from the end of the bed to the dresser/closet - it was pretty roomy & had mirrors as sliding doors. In my room, next to the register, there was a hole about 3 inches in diameter in the floor. A small critter could have come up thru it. It also was not very soundproof. One night I heard the "stray" cats. In the other side of the trailer - a king size bed. I was told the one we had was "lopsided" & hard. The bunk was just ok. Did hear a complaint. We had all adults in our "cottage".
There were probably 8-10 TV channels - and 2 of them were Disney & Universal related to the parks.
We also had small ants all over.
The outside deck was quite nice if you could have sat out there at night without mosquitos eating you up.
New towels were brought daily - I think - we always had them (possibly one of my roomies picked them up - not sure).
Now for some of the other "cottage" whoas..........
TV - no batteries in remote - sound broken on tv.
Microwave on top of stove - Front of door missing
Air conditioning - would not regulate - it was either freezing or hot, hot, hot.
One person woke to a cockroach on their face - I am not lying about this or anything else.
The last night we were there - last night 6/26/08 in fact - a powere outage - I think a transformer must have been hit or something - we were without powere from about 9pm - 3/4am.
Yes it was 'HOT"
As for Pros - the pool was nice - filled with salt water. Sand volleyball area, playground, The store at the office was nice. The campsites looked nice. Very close to attractions - Old Town litterally down the street. Disney - a 5 minute drive. Airport - maybe 20-30 minute drive All ameneties, stores, restaurants you can think of are somewhere on 192 - just drive & you will probably find what you are looking for That was nice.
Cons - the cottages - NASTY! I would NOT stay there again. Unless it were a newer, cleaner cottage. It was like the movie "Vegas Vacation" Everything that could go wrong or happen did. I do not recommend this place. If you go - be prepared for the stray cats, ants etc . Like I stated earlier - it could be a really nice place - if it were brought into the 21st century & some of the foilage were cut back, trimmed.
Not a fan of Tropical Palms.

Mixed Feelings About This Place

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's not awesome but it's not terrible either.
Only stayed here two days in what they call a "studio cottage". Basically that's a short single-wide mobile home.
The cottage was indeed "worn" as other reviewers have said. But it was adequate for me and my two teenage sons.
PROS:
--Quiet. Soundproofing was good.
--Close to everything. Disney only 10 minutes away.
--Helpful staff.
--Comfortable bed
CONS:
--Fridge way too small. Dormitory size. Freezer compartment the size of a breadbox. Not adequate for a family staying a week and expecting to cook their own meals.
--Inability to hook up a DVD player or game console to the TV. There were AV jacks but no way to change the input from TV to Video. Maintenance guy brought over several different remotes but couldn't get it to work. Said it was like this in other units.
--Stray cats. Very bold. You eat out on the deck and they won't leave even if you threaten them.
--Snack bar understaffed. When we went there was only one person at the counter and one cook to cater to dozens.
--No curtains or blinds on upper windows. Light from streetlamps bathed the interior at night. If you need total darkness to sleep you won't like this.
--The studio unit we were in had a "loft" with a mattress. Neither of my sons would sleep up there. Too hot and stuffy.
So, it looks like I've got more cons than pros but I'd still consider staying here again. The place was very peaceful and, like I said, very close to Disney and the attractions in Kissimmee.
Be careful about getting a cottage in the newer section of the park. There are no trees in that section. No shade. In summer you'll boil.

I Have a family of 5 and we stayed at the resort 3 years ago in one of the regular cottages which was great for our purpose. This time we decided to upgrade to the new cottage with a close location to the pool and access to the main office which has a little grocery store (butter, bread, and beer)
We loved it! not only was the maid service great but the security of the premises was on top of everything.
The location is very close to the attractions. Just a little FYI if you go to universal or adventure island buy the express pass or you will never get through all the rides. the first day we went on 3 rides and after we purchased the express we got on everything!!!!!
This is a great family resort! Don't expect a 5 star resort however all the comfort of home plus sunshine, nice pool and pleaseant people.
take care feel free to e mail me for pics Rkaub1@verizon.net
