Thank goodness we didn't check in til midnight and left at 0930!! The hotel was awful! The decor was dated (From what era I don't know as it was just dark and awful) and the whole place smelt musty and stale. We had hardly any sleep as the bed was so uncomfortable. The road outside was noisy from about 0630. Our room also had a delightful view of a building site. The shower was dreadful and leaked all over the floor. We were so tired when we arrived that we foolishly ordered breakfast from the room service menu. It arrived the next morning a few minutes after our designated time and was disappointing to say the least. My fiance ordered eggs on toast -which was two very stodgy fried eggs on burnt toast. I ordered cereal with "cold" milk which was warm on arrival at our room. We also ordered 'tropical fruit' from the breakfast menu which turned out to be half a dry orange and watermelon (lots of it - which I am allergic to) and melon, melon and more melon. The staff were helpful and friendly but I am extremely glad we didn't upgrade to a superior room, the standard was bad enough. Won't be staying here when we are next in Townsville....

We had the family unit which was just acceptable. I would not stay at this Hotel again because it is clearly geared for business travellers and everywhere STANK of cigarette smoke; it even permeated the suite to the point where I had to open windows. =*Having said that the staff were excellent, they were courteuous and polite at all times, nothing was too much effort for them. They were the highlight in our stay*= A huge thank you to all of them from housekeeping to the front desk. Grumpy Old Man (with energetic Grand-daughter)

We booked this hotel over the internet as the pics didn't look too bad and a name like "The Plaza" sounded good...We arrived and instantly we realised it was a 1 star establishment. The lift was like something out of a horror movie and our room was extremely old, small and dirty! We were most upset so checked out the next morning and made our way up to the Holiday Inn where they put us in a lovely room. The room was HORRIBLE - DO NOT STAY THERE
