We had the pleasure of spendning 3 night?s at The Dylan in May 01-04. We reserved two completely different roomcategories, one stadard duplex. The duplex has a minimalistic white design, spacious with bathroom on the second level. We also reserved the Manhattansuite, Hempels masterpiece and personal replica, 45 sqm. The Manhattan is a designersdream, black & gold with beautiful woodenfloor in dark Mahogany. The Suite is located on the second floor with 5 magnificent large windows facing the Zen garden, draped with hundreds of meters of tafted silk. A lot of heart and compassion was put in to the Manhattansuite when it was designed, no question about that. Recently FG Stilj made a fantastic job remodeling all public areas. Fantastic and very tastfully done. As the owner of TDG Design Group and with a lot of exerience in "hard" design, i will give The Dylan a 5 out of 5, this is without no doubt the best boutique hotel in Europe.
Finally, maybe the most important Dylan access:
The staff
Kind, helpfull and always one step a head.
We are looking forward staying at The Dylan soon again,

We stayed in the Dylan for two nights in May and I couldn't recommend this hotel more. It is very centrally located (close to main shopping, restaurants, sights) and the styling and decor are top class. The rooms are luxurious and spacious with a well equipped bathroom (although shower did have some hot/cold issues). The main positive I have about this hotel however is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Great for a short stay, although its central location means it lacks some of the facilities you see in top hotels (pool, spa etc).

I was booked to stay in this hotel and was apprehensive given the scathing remarks in other reviews. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is a lovely hotel and the staff are bunch of wonderful people who went out of their way to be nice and do the needful to make my stay comfortable. (I did see them quietly ignore a rude guest. I guess the moral is - if you are nice, people will be nice in return, rudeness begets rudeness!!)
The room is rather small for the price, but remember that you are in Amsterdam where space is at a premium. The bathroom was a revelation and the larger hotel chains would do well to take a few cues from the Dylan on the subject of creating lovely bathrooms. Both the room and the bathroom were well equipped. The complimentary internet access is excellent.
The hotel is located in a wonderful area in the centre of Amsterdam and is a short way away from the main attractions. For a 41 roomed hotel, it is very well known in Amsterdam and the locals hold it in high esteem. A taxi driver will have no problem in taking you there (If he does not recognise 'Dylan' tell him to take you to 'Blake's; which is the old name for this property.
The public areas on the ground floor, the lounge, cafe etc. are chic and smart. They come across as being sophisticated and classy without being loud or flashy. In fact, nowhere is the hotel brassy, flashy or loud. Each bit of this wonderful hotel is elegant.

The Dylan is a reason to visit Amsterdam

Make The Dylan a reason to visit Amsterdam. This must be the best hotel in Amsterdam. The decor, atmosphere, the rooms & the staff all add up to the reason they are one of the Small Leading Hotels of the World Group.
Great Hotel despite naysayers

My booking was made with some trepidation as I had read some scathing reviews here. We stayed four nights and booked two rooms and I have no complaints. The staff was very professional and accommodating. The service in the restaurant was incomparable. The only issue I has was when I asked the concierge to book a table for eight one evening at a nearby restaurant, somehow we were all given the price fixe meal when we would have preferred to order a la carte. Both rooms were well equipped with ample soap, toiletries and amenities. The public rooms are particularly lovely and make for a great meeting place.
