This place needs a makeover. The outside of the building looks shabby & could use new paint, masonry & landscaping. The room size was adequate, but the carpet , windows & curtains were dirty. The dresser drawers didn't quite close & everything looked worn & rundown. The sink's chrome faucet hadn't been wiped off in a long time & was scummy. I'm sensitive to mold & house dust, and had an asthma attack after staying overnight. [I haven't had an attack in years, but keep meds with me.] I didn't eat breakfast here, so can't comment on it.
We checked out two days early & went to the John Muir Inn across Rte 29 from The Chateau. It had nice rooms at the same price, plus it's next to a Marie Callender's Restaurant.

I booked this hotel in error and payed the price (besides the $100 a night). The first thing I noticed when we walked in the lobby to check in was the horrible smell - like very old, dingy carpet. The odor was reaffirmed upon entrance into the room I would luckily only be spending one night in. The carpet in the rooms looked like it had not been changed since 1965 and reeked of past memories of cigarettes, mildew, and funk. I did not want to step on the floor without my slippers on, nor did I want to step foot in the nasty shower - the mildew encrusted shower mat looked like it had never been removed and was a permanent fixture to the tub. The gold rim border around the mirror was coming off and was rusted and the wallpaper was peeling off around the window. The bed was so hard and lumpy (springs stick into your back); I kept my socks on so the possibility of bed bug bites would be less severe (I did check for bed bugs - none were found). If all of this wasn't enough, the satellite TV did not get any local channels such as Fox 40 or NBC. I was lucky enough to be traveling with another person who stayed in the room next to me, or I would have been scared to stay here - nice and cozy right next to the railroad tracks. I think we were one of three guests staying here - although we think a hooker and her man fumbled in around 1:30 AM... Ladies, I would not suggest staying here unless you have a man to protect you and can deal with funky living quarters - possibly if you were drunk you might be able to stomach it.

Sleep on the concrete under the highway...it's cheaper and much more comfortable than the beds. This place was terrible. It was the most expensive hotel I've ever stayed at ($211) for one double bed and by far the worst ever and I've stayed at some dives. I was totally drunk from a day of wine tasting and I couldn't even pass out on the bed it was so hard. I ended up sleeping sitting up on the chair in the corner with my feet up on the other chair. It was extrememly hot out and the air conditioner only worked until a certain time then cut off. It was loud, the decor was out of the 60's, the bathroom floor was frightening and I didn't want to walk on it with bare feet, the alarm clock and lights beside the bed didn't work because the electrical outlet was ripped out of the wall, I could literally go on and on about how awful this hotel is. The owners really need to spend A LITTLE money fixing the place up before nobody stays there ever again. I know we won't be back.

Absolutely the most uncomfortable, cheap, hardest beds I have slept on in over 23 years of travel. Thin walls = way too much noise from other rooms. Small parking lot shared with banquet center and restaurant, no parking anywhere near your room on weekends. Junk still under bed from previous guests, shower did not work, sink faucet leaked and spewed water from handle when turned on. Carpet had bad mildew odor. ice and vending machine out of order, and so on. Good location, but pay a few extra bucks for better lodging. Crappy conditions for the price, strongly recommend you go elsewhere!

This is an older, somewhat run-down hotel. Why did we like it? Great location, clean rooms and very accommodating staff. While in the Napa Valley, we "checked out" some other hotels we passed along the way and prices were much higher. In high season, we paid $109 during the week, $159 on weekends. If you are celebrating something special and are looking for a beautiful place to stay, this is not for you. If you are looking for convenience and looking to save some money to spend at fine restaurants, you should consider this. Also, a complimentary basic continental breakfast is included. They have wireless, free internet and even printed our boarding passes in their office.
