Improper behavior at the Metropolitan

There are a lot of things I can say about the hotel. On the positive side, the room was spacious and the furniture looked relatively new. On the negative side, we had to chase a gecko out of our room, the hotel hallways were in terrible shape, and parking was very limited. I also had an issue with an extra charge that was levied to my account. Read on for details:
I recently booked a reservation to this hotel via Hotwire.com. Hotwire appropriately charged my credit card at the time of this booking.
On 11/3/07, I checked into the Metropolitan Hilton Head Hotel. I checked out of the hotel the following day. There were no incidental expenses incurred during my hotel stay, so there would not have been a need for any additional charges (except for possibly the "$5 resort fee").
On 12/10/07, I received a copy of my MasterCard statement and immediately noticed a charge from the Metropolitan Hilton Head Hotel for $37.40. I appeared that they were attempting to charge me for the room; however, this was a mistake since I prepaid via Hotwire.
On 12/11/07 I called the Metropolitan Hilton Head Hotel and spoke to “Touch”. She informed me that there was no manager on duty at the time, but that she would pass along my information to her manager, Michelle Morris.
On 12/12/07, Michelle left a message on my answering machine indicated that she researched the charge and confirmed that this charge should not have been levied against me. She then indicated that I needed to call her back with my credit card information and that she would then credit my account for $37.40.
For the next several days, I placed numerous calls to the Metropolitan Hilton Head Hotel but was unable to get reach of Michelle. Finally, on 12/18, I spoke to her. I gave Michelle my credit card information, and she then indicated that she would credit my account for the $37.40.
It has now been over 2 weeks and a credit has yet to be applied to my credit card. I guess management believes that I'm just going to go away. However, since they have yet to apply my credit, I've contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge and I'm telling my story to others so that they will be aware of this activity at this hotel. Be sure to check your credit card statements after visiting this hotel. I believe that my situation is more than an "honest mistake".

My sister and I took a few days off and went to Hilton Head, SC. The town is lovely with so much to do and see. Our hotel room was so pleasant. It was hot, but the air conditioning was nice and cool. The beds were very comfortable. Even though work was being done on the floor where we stayed, the custodial help kept the halls clean. The management was so very helpful, polite and gracious to us. We hope to visit the Metropolitan again in the near future.

Please anyone who wishes to stay at The Metropolitan Hotel in Hilton Head Island, SC, DON'T DO IT!!!
My husband, son and myself stayed for four days for my birthday. It was the worst experience I had ever had at a three star hotel. Our first day, we were given a room with the ceiling falling in in the bathroom and a big hole in the shower. We were given another room and it appeared to be ok. However, the new room had no toilet tissue. It took the hotel five hours to get us some. The second day we came back from being out and had no towels, no pillow cases and no extra sheets I had asked for in writing before I left. I went down to the lobby to find out if it was going to take another five hours to get these things and all of a sudden the manager threaten to make us leave just because I was upset about not getting my things. She was extremely rude not only to me but also to her employees. She screamed at one the employees to get me my stuff NOW! They also advertised to have wireless internet in their so called Business Center. The business center consisted of a TV, couch, desktop computer and a table to sit it on. Because of their lies about the internet, I had to go somewhere else to get a little work done. On the third day of stay, we came back again and again no towels. The entire stay we did not get clean towels until early evening. They also advertised for a hot and cold continential breakfast. That consisted of toaster waffles, cold biscuits (no gravy or meat for the biscuits), stail bread for toast and danish. That was it. Maybe a few pieces of fruit. If you wanted something hot to eat you had to heat it up yourselfs. I highly recommend anyone who books with this hotel, change hotels. That hotel was the worst hotel I had ever stayed in and I will probably never go back to Hilton Head Island because of it. One more piece of advice, be careful it you are a kind, respectful or just a down to earth person. We only encountered one nice person on that island. It seemed to me that everyone who lived or worked there were all rude. Thanks for listening and don't stay at The Metropolitan Hotel!!! Tell you friends.
