We couldn't recommend this accommodation to others. We took the advice offered in a Trip Advisor review and asked for a quiet room at the Old Bakery Inn. We were told, "All of our rooms are very quiet," so we went ahead and booked. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Our room did not have double glazing and the Inn sits on a busy, unattractive intersection on the A7 highway in the CBD. It is a convenient location, but the fact we had been misled spoiled our stay... even more so than the traffic noise.

We checked in slightly earlier and was given a room (aka "The Stable" / Room 27) immediately, with the option to view and change the room if we were not comfy. "The Stable" is spacious except that the floor is not carpeted. We request for a change of the room only in the night after we returned from our Tamar Valley Tour. Room 11 (just next to the reception) was allocated and we find this room cosy and well carpeted. Though smaller, we really like the room especially the toilet (well there is a little stairway leading to the toilet). We enjoyed our stay there.....

Great place to stay in Launceston. Staff fantastic, and rooms great for the money- large and clean. Well located a short distance to the Gorge, would definitely go back

We also had a street-side room (ground level) and I'm quite surprised that someone from as large a city as Sydney would ever think that Launceston traffic is loud. It wasn't so terrible as that traveler made it out to be. I noticed it more when going to bed rather than having it wake me up in the morning. By noticing traffic noise I mean it was more of an acknowledgement that a few cars are going up the hillside rather than having gridlock outside the door.
Aside from that, the hotel was very lovely. I love quaint old buildings, and this one certainly has some character. It is very convenient to the CBD, within walking distance even if one doesn't mind a 6 block walk. The staff is very friendly, and are happy to give you some options for dining if you're new to town. All in all, it was a very pleasurable stay and I would recommend it!

My wife and I stayed here as part of our Honeymoon tour of Tasmania. The Inn was lovely, friendly staff, just wonderful, but here's the killer. The traffic noise in any room facing the street was bad, very bad, especially during morning and afternoon peak hours. My wife has no hearing in one ear and a 60% loss of hearing in the other, she doesn't wear her hearing aid to bed. The traffic noise was so loud it woke her up! Thank goodness we had only booked in here for two nights.
