We stayed at EFLane Hotel two nights, Friday and Saturday. Do not stay in room 306 if there is live music! It is right above the noisey bar and they have loud live music until after midnight. The water in a glass shook. We felt like visitors to Jurassic Park.
There was no luxury in this hotel, despite the pretty website and promising words. The staff was not accommodating. Although they were sorry our room was noisey, they did nothing and offered no compensation. No "How was your stay?", no "Come again!", no "Thanks for staying with us." "Light breakfast" is corn flakes and stale cold bagels.
On a positive note, the room was large and relatively clean. Extra towels were provided upon request.
Recommendation: Stay at the Super 8 and save yourself $100 per night.

Lousy
We arrived for our daughter’s orientation weekend at Keene State, only to find that they booked our room a month earlier. When my wife attempted, politely, to discuss the problem with the person at the front desk, she was indifferent, rude, at one point turning from my wife in a huff, and exclaiming “jeez!” under her breath. She would not at first contact the management staff, but with much prodding, she did. I waited 45 minutes to meet with the manager. The manager blamed my wife and I for the problem, asking if I check my bank statements, and “didn’t you see there was a charge for the room in May?” She commented on how guests often attempt to scam the hotel. When I asked if she was suggesting that I was scamming the hotel, she replied “not at all, but it is curious that you didn’t notice the charge on you bank statement” (again with the bank statement!) I asked her if she was attempting to blame me for the mistake, upon which she replied “not at all, its just strange that you don’t check you bank statements” (she seemed obsessed with this point). When I complained about the front desk’s attitude towards my wife, she stated, “well she’s leaving at the end of the week anyways.” The manager proceeded to show me some handwritten paperwork, meant, I’m assuming, to prove that the mistake was my own, and again proceeded to comment on how “curious” it was that “you didn’t check you bank statement” (I hope she finds some help for this bank statement obsession). She did not, in any way (nor did the young lady at the front desk), attempt to help me and my wife find other lodging, and seemed put out and angry with us. I told her I wanted my money back. She offered a gift certificate. When I pushed harder for a refund, she got up angrily, and walked away, stating “fine, I’ll give you your money back, but your going on a list of people who can’t stay here!”. Once she finished refunding me and returned, I told her how disappointed I was with her behavior and treatment of me. She (you guessed it) brought up the bank statements.
I am a mild mannered therapist. My wife works in an emergency room, evaluating psychiatric patients. We are kind and very nice people. We have never been made persona non grata at any institution. I remained calm and respectful throughout the interaction, while the manager became increasingly rude.

The basement suite we stayed in had a mold problem, which at $265 a night is pretty dissapointing. The bed and sheets were institutuional grade, the "jacuzzi" I was promised was a bathtube with jets in it and the lampshades had tears and burn marks on them. I was upset that the "suite" was in the basement-it was like a dungeon. I stayed at a Comfort Inn Suites in Carlisle PA two days earlier that was cleaner and more comfortable than the EF Lane. For the record, I have never complained about a stay in a hotel. The only reason I am making special effort to write a negative review is because I feel that you could get a similar room at one of the local motels and save yourself the money.

Plesantly Surprised

I was plesantly surprised with the EF Lane hotel. I had low expectations knowing a little about the location and that it is a college town. But we booked a 2 floor suite and it was clean and friendly. The sofa bed was horribly uncomfortable but has anyone ever slept on a comfortable sleeper sofa?
I recommend this hotel for people who need to be in keene for a night or 2 it is an unbeatable location and has all of the amentities one could need for a quick stay.
Very Accomodating & great location

EF Lane is one of my favorite hotels to stay in. I spent the night on a whim once and have planned occasional overnight trips there since because I liked it so much. The first thing you notice about the hotel, wether you call or walk in, is that the desk staff is very accomodating. They will willingly give you lower rates and make sure you know about discounts without you having to bargain for them. The hotel looks like an old factory that was converted; the rooms have brickwork walls and huge windows. I don't know about the regular rooms but the suites are super spacious and have a bedroom with a firm, comfortable bed, a seperate living area and whirlpool tub. Its also very clean! Even without a AAA or seasonal discount I'd say the rooms are worth the asking price. The location of EF Lane is fantastic! Its right on the main street of downtown Keene and is flanked by locally owned shops, restaurants and bars. I try not to eat in the same place twice when I visit but I ate at the hotel restaurant once and it was good.
