We checked three rooms and all had no air conditioning or hot water. The room had a musty scent that was nauseating. As we entered the building we noticed a mildew scent. That should have been our first warning. After requesting better rooms and examining 3 other rooms, we settled in the best one, which was musty and had no air or hot water. I called it THE HORRIBLE INN. My advice is.......run!

I've read a lot of these reviews as I'm staying in a lower class hotel this year only because it's an extra 10 minutes closer to where we're going but the memphis plaza hotel had its downfalls like the fact that it was being renovated when we were there but overall there wasn't really anything wrong with it at all. Although our reservations got lost somehow they immediatly got us up and into a room and helped us out whenever we had any questions. The bathroom was perfectly clean and the beds and room itself were definitely good. Kept us well rested for a week of crazy partying and drinking. It's possible we just had a good room and some people had bad rooms but the one we stayed in was definitely easily worth what we paid and I'd recommend it to everyone I could if they were looking for a solid cheap hotel.

As I read some of the reviews I questioned ...what are people expecting for $55.00...the Ritz Carlton?! I have stayed at this property approximately 4 times because of the price. My expectations were met for $55.00. It's an average stay for a below average hotel price. One of the things I look at when I first arrive are the cars in the parking lot. It gives you a slight indication on the other guests. Most of the cars were from rental car agencies which would lead you to believe business travelers. I have never had a bad experience because of noise. I have stayed at other hotels paying upwards of $200 per night and be woken by noise...ice machines, elevators, guests etc. I have always felt safe. Yes, it does need some updating and things in the rooms are outdated. But again, what are you expecting for $55.00? My room(s) have always been clean. I have never seen a bug or cock roach. If I did...I wouldn't stay there. I had a problem with the tv reception on one channel, but I wasn't in my room for very long anyway so it was no big deal. I found the front desk staff extremely pleasant. I was able to check the internet at no additional charge which is always a plus. The Cracker Barrel restaurant is right next door. I would rate this property a "C" on ammenities.

I was on a road trip from Buffalo to Los Angeles and by the second day, I tired out by the time of reaching Memphis. I did not have a hotel booked for this unscheduled overnighter. I took an exit where there were a bunch of the usual hotels and for some reason, I drove up to the lobby area of the Memphis Plaza. It looked really nice inside! I decided to go in and inquire about the rate and was pleasantly surprised by the under $50 rate.
I was given a 2nd floor, king-sized room. Very clean and nicely appointed. Free wi-fi service with excellent reception.
Next door to Cracker Barrel.
Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Booked this hotel on Hotwire (I will not get into my frustration with Hotwire in this review. I will just say , "BEWARE".) for a stay of one night on Feb. 16, 2008.
We arrived with a PREPAID confirmation number that evening at 7 pm and the girl at the desk told us we did not have a reservation. She did not even LOOK at my reservation number. She simply stated that there were no rooms available to rent, so it didnt matter what my reservation number was. Very dismissive and uncaring is the opinion I left with.
